  • Brickie 103 how long did your claim take, curious because HSBC made their offer after 2 letters and at their eight week deadline. Do Shabbey behave the same? If they do I'll delay starting the court process and give them the 8 weeks. Any advice warmly received.
    Good luck all.

I have just posted my success story on the success thread.
I started my claim against the Abbey for £4800 in early March, followed Martins advice to the letter, received £995 in April as gesture of goodwill, carried on with court claim, had court date of 12 July, then today I receive a letter agreeing to pay a further £4160 in full settlement.
    :T :j :rotfl:

Dont be disheartened, just stick to the advice given on this site and hold your nerve.
    Best wishes to everyone.

  • Hi all,

first time posting on here, would appreciate your advice . . .

After plucking up the courage to make the plunge I sent off my letter the other day detailing my charges for the last six years (£2110), I have received the standard letter back from them saying they will look into it in the four week period, was half expecting it so no worries there, but I've just gone to draw some cash out and have had my card rejected . . on speaking to the (UN)helpful line they have informed me my card was canceled the day they received my claim

Is this a standard ploy from Abbey as I have had no notification they were about to do this, was going in this weekend to open my parachute account thinking I'd at least get a letter first if they did do it.

    Mark.
  • Hi,

I have a fairly low overdraft of £300 . . there was still £100 left of that on the day they canceled my card

Spent all night trying to get to the bottom of it, but the day they receive the claim for my charges, the card gets stopped, the system apparently doesn't give them any reason as to why they have done it . . . has made me even more determined to go the whole way now. Just got to try and get through the next 7 days with no money as I'm currently working away and haven't a hope in hell of getting to a branch

Hi I am very concerned that Abbey will close my bank account if I file for charges to be refunded. I reccon they re due me about £2000 in charges back.

I would go overdrawn then they would charge me, I would lose track of what was taken off my account as I was using my VPcard to pay for purchases, and they would charge me if i had not left enough money in my account for direct debits, even if I paid the money in the day after.

I had an overdraft of £1000 which I used every month. I have since then agreed to pay my overdraft back of 4 months and have kept to the agreement and now my account has not been overdrawn by 1p since.

Do you think this would be the best time to start the ball rolling?

Because I had a few problems I think my credit score is not good, and it seems that this is affecting me opening up a new account, which I don't want any overdrafts on but just to have my wages paid into.

Really don't know what to do, but I feel that abbey has ripped me off, time and time again.

Where do I start and has anyone has a similar experience that could tell me what happend with them.

Been thinking about it for a while.

I have my mortgage with abbey and not missed a single payment in 7 years, also have the mortage insurance out with them to, and an ISA account, but it only has 79p in it.

Please help, Im not sure if I am opening up a can of worms, and if they close my account what will I do with my wages.....

    Help and advice please wanted....

Where can I find the letter templates as I am not sure, but ready to start ball rolling, once I convince myself that they will not close my account.

Interest charged for insufficient funds - Direct debit not paid

overdraft interest due to going over agreed overdraft

not sure what to claim for, perhaps someone can help me.

I have gone back 6 months and already we are looking at £400, although my account and personal banking is sorted out now, no overdraft and no charges being applied for the last two months.

Help required, you seem to be the experts :rotfl:
