 Hi everyone,
I wondered if any of you helpful people would be able to advise me on what action (if any) I should take now?
This morning I received a letter from Abbey informing me that they have concluded their investigation.
The bank charges I originally requested amounts to £1,378 including interest.
This is what part of the letter reads:
"I'm sorry you are unhappy with the charges and I understand you would like these refunded. Although the charges were correct, as a gesture of goodwill, I am happy to refund £60. Your account will be updated within the next 10 working days.
I appreciate your feelings on this matter but we are satisfied that the charges do not contravene the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999. We also comply with the Office of Fair Trading, in dealing fairly and openly with our customers".
Is this a standard letter?
Please, Please help! What shall I do now? I am obviously not happy with their measly offer!!!
I await your response in anticipation.

I was in a similiar situation - you now need to inform them that you are refusing the GOGW and will continue to fight for the full amount that they owe you.
One thing to look out for however is:- when I got the letter for my gesture of goodwill it was actually AFTER they had already refund the money into my account so I had to accept it without prejudice.
Hope that helps

been doing the same with abbey , had the standard letters stating 4 weeks ,blah blah blah. have taken them to court, got the letter the other day saying it was transferring it to my local court.
phoned abbey on friday to see if they wont to settle (claiming £3302.), and the girl said they are only dealing with people who have court dates, and only then they wait till 2-3 weeks before the hearing
she said they have over 1 thousand in the que, she said i would have to wait till i get a court date, of send a letter stating what i would consider settling for, so am gonna ask for £3000 and see what she says.0 -

Hi
I'm trying to claim charges back for a family member. After 10 weeks have now just received a 'charge summary sheet' from Abbey listing all the different charges debited against the account over the past 3 years.
My question is:- What is meant by 'Cleared Transaction Charges' as they total over £900.
Thanks for any help.0 -
I think a cleared transaction charge is what they charge when you pay for something with not enough in your account, so they charge you for 'clearing' the transaction, it is when you have a cheque clearing in 2/3 days time, so the money will be there be isnt at that moment. You can claim these back too.Sarah0

hi
abbey have sent me a letter offering 65% of my claim, i dont want to accept that so does anyone have any email addresses for anyone at abbey that have worked in the past? I'm not to bothered about holding out for the full amount as money is tight at the moment, any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Btw claim is for £20450 -
Hi Imbutty
This chap dealt with my personal claim last year
alan.squires@abbey.com
We did a bit of negotiating and well settled on the full amount, it took 2 days from start to finish. the cheque arrived 5 days later.
