  • Hi everyone,

I requested the charge data for two Abbey accounts on 1 March. Initially received previous year's statements for 1 account about 3 weeks later. Chased them for the remaining info several times.

Now they've provided all data running back 6 years for one account but nothing for the 2nd account.

They claim that they only received request for the 2nd account on 21 March, even though they've supplied the other account data and by doing so have acknowledged receipt of the request.

They claim that the 40 days begins when they begin to process the request (in their world this means 21 March). I have asked several times for this policy to be confirmed in writing, all who cite this refuse to do so (because they know they're spouting BS).
  • Hi

I have a current Abbey account with approx £800 worth of charges + interest to claim back.

I also have a closed account with approx £500 worth of charges + interest to claim. This old account ran from 1990-1999 but i kept all my statements so i have proof.

Do i make these claims indivudally or group them together? I am ready to go to the online court phase so want to make sure I get it right!

    Many thanks :o
  • Hi all

Ok I sent 2 letters just like it says on the guide and I got a response from the first one stating that they will be looking in to it, so I replied with another letter stating that I will be taking them to court (that was a few weeks ago) so now I have gone online with Moneyclaim and processed a claim for £1100 I am a little scared that just my luck Abbey will want to take me to court  in that case I have no idea what to do? has anyone else got this far via courts before getting paid?

    Please advise

Customer complaints is 0845 600 6014 (Milton Keynes) - a bit hit and miss as to who you get  i.e., those who can read fluently off a screen and those who read it parrot fashion. Go for option 2 on the menu (NOT info re: claiming bank charges). Ended up having to challenge almost everything they told me - you can tell they've been instructed to be as cagey as possible! ;)

Banking centre based in Bradford is 08459 724 724. They told me you have to apply to them directly for charges details via SAR but I'd still do it through details on this site/CAG website. To be honest, the Bradford person wasn't particularly helpful (not her fault though) and she ended up putting me through to complaints. Ended up on the phone for almost an hour in the end. Despite being confidently told (after discussion with her colleague) by the lovely Michelle in complaints this morning that Abbey don't keep any data older than 6 years due to DPA stipulations (but who then ummed and ermmed when I told her she was wrong about this), I was told by the (genuinely) helpful lady this afternoon that they do keep data after 6 years, Abbey just won't pay out on charges prior to 6 years (now there's a challenge.....:D ). Had, let's call it, a debate with her regarding my issues and ended up telling her that I don't mean to spoil her day but if I didn't get all my requested info by 4th May (40 day deadline) I'd be off to court. (Basically they sent a totally irrelevant standard letter response to my SAR  )

Just to update - got a summary of my 2004 charges through the post today -letter dated 23rd April - the very same day as I threatened them with court action. A coincidence surely.....? £1100 just for 2004  . Waiting for 2001 - 2003 in anticipation! They have until 4th May....... :D
  • Oh yes, That is standard proceedure. Most of us who bank with Abbey have got that including me. Carry on and don't let them worry you.

    Good luck

    Hi again,

    Continuing from post #1117;

Started the court process and still within the first 14 day period. I note that the day before I signed up at the MCOL website Abbey "planted" £200-odd into my account, roughly a quarter of what they have taken from me in charges. Saturday (21/04) I received a letter from Abbey regarding how they are justified etc etc, but as a gesture they will credit my account x amount etc.

My query is, do I just ignore this given that I have started the court process, or am I required to inform Abbey in writing/by phone that I am unwilling to accept their offer?

    Ten

Yes the same thing happend to me. I wrote to Abbey saying that I do not accept this amount and request them to withdraw it. They hardly ever do though. Also phone your local court and tell them what has happend and they will log it with your case. Good Luck;)
  • Hi all 1st ever post for me but need some info if you dont mind ?

In the long winding process of claiming my abbey statements first claimed on 12 march so they are well over the 40 days all i have is my last year full statements plus table of charges from 2004, ok after numerous phonecalls i got no where so ive filled out a questionaire on the information commisioner website and sent a copy along with a letter to abbey telling them im breaching them is this ok do you think ? also can i trust abbey with this table of charges as really i wanted to check them myself as they are showing there are no charges from jan 2004 - may 2006 but only charges for the full statments that i already have, hats to say that abbey are not missing charges of the table as i dont have the full statements to check

Look forward to hearing from anyone who could kindly help
    Thanks

I was just wondering did you recieve your 04 - 06 statements in a table format and if so how long after recieving them did you have to wait for your 02 - 03 statements if you dont mind me asking?

    Many thanks
