I know this may not be the right thread but I wrote to Abbey asking for a refund of charges totalling approx 1200 pounds and they wrote back to me offering 20 pounds. What should I do now?

Ring them back and tell them you are not satisfied with the amount offered and that you ll accept say 1,000 to end process of claim. It seems off other threads and posts people have requested a different and more suitable amount and stuck by their guns and an amount has been reached so try that. If not carry on process according to timetables:money:

Just reading your message whilst on the phone to Abbey!!! It would appear that it's their company policy not to communicate with each other!!! Now been transferred to & on hold waiting to speak with Complaints Dept (2nd time today - thinking of adding them to friends & family thing with phone co.!). Could be here a while.......
  • I have just spoken to complaints dep after being on hold 40mins the I have got to step 3 I AM RECLAIMING £2400 but they said there final offer is £1200 and i now have to take it to ombusmon, shall i just start the court action instead.

    Hi

I am new to this site so any help would be greatly appreciated. My bank (Abbey) has filed a defence in respect to my claim (£456) and I recently received a letter saying that my claim has been transferred to my local court. The bit about the allocation questionnaire was crossed out and thus no questionnaire was enclosed.

    So what now?

Is it worth me writing a letter to the judge requesting that he/she order standard disclosure? Can I make this request without an AQ? I have read that an AQ usually comes with a fee so if I send a letter making the same request, but without enclosing a fee, would they accept it?

What happens if the judge throws out the case instead of giving me a court date?

    Thanks!!

What number are you using to contact them re your case (and anyone else please) I just cant face starting that route through the general call centre in India.

    Thanks

    Hi!

I havent had a date set yet, but the allocation questionaire bit has been crossed out, i'll ring the court today to see what they say..

No where on the letter does it say i've had a date set.....sorry if i didnt make myself clear on my last post!

    thanks

I posted earlier today to say to the effect that if that section was crossed out then the AQ has been dispensed with and is not neccessary. Somewhat very oddly that post has completely disappeared.

The letter was basically a table outlining charges, is this normal? it included Total cleared transaction charges (totalling £280.00 although its states £40.00 was refunded in May 04) Can I claim for the remaining charges that have not been refunded? This is normal and is Abbeys new system apparently in place to deal with the volume of Subject Access requests. You can reclaim any charges not refunded.

I was also charged £32.00 in Aug 04 for unpaid cheque charge. Can this also be claimed for? I just really confused in what I can claim as the wording Abbey use is different to on this forum. Yes you can reclaim this charge.

Also I can’t seem to apply for interest on top as Abbey have only given me the month and year and no day so when I put charges into the calculator it isn’t adding interest. Well spotted, I hadnt noticed ! In the absence of a date it would be safe to assume the date of receipt of your monthly statement could be used for a rough guide as to the amount of interest. If the claim gets as far as court we will need the exact date of each charge and I will be writing ASAP to ask for this.

Any information and advice would be very gratefully appreciated.

    Many thanks for your time

Purply bits are my comments. Hope they help. :)

Should we be asking for interest at this stage, I thought it was only if it goes to court:confused:
