This reminds me - i really need to get a tape player for my old ZX 48k Speccy.

Now that is truly retro gaming at it's best!

damn, when did that come out? I had my first speccy in about 1987, I think it was a ZX2 128k.

I would be tempted by one of these but won't buy for two reasons...

    1) I believe it's battery operated, shame it's not mains (I am sure I read either the controllers on the console are batteries, or am I wrong?).

    2) I would feel a trator as I was a Spectrum fan and Commodore & Spectrum users used to be very competitive over which one was best!
do people remember in the computer mags in the day they would give you aload of code to type in to your pc screen and it would apparently create a very basic game, i never could get the damn things to work, use to spend hours typing those codes into the screen.

I had the same trouble, spent hours typing out the code and double checking it all and even asking my Mum to check for mistakes, I swear the magazines (Computer & Video Games & Your Sinclair & Crash in my case) made them slightly wrong just to annoy us!).

    Ha!
I bought a ZX80 when they first came out and sold it to my mate when the '81 came out for £79.99, for the same price (As the '81).

    Didn't I do well?(Not).:)

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.
  • Oh yes, I remember speccys. They were the tiny things with rubber buttons that needed a thing almost as big as the machine itself just to plug in a joystick. I also remember the poor graphics where big areas of screen were black plus one other colour. Still can't understand why the silly speccy owners didn't get a c64 instead, well here's their chance to find out what they missed out on.;)

We conquered 'Hunchback', although this was for the BBC Micro B, a quality computer, no doubt doubly checked by the BBC for code accuracy. The downfall was it took a lot less time to complete the actual game than it did to code it :D

But the 10 minute wait was half the fun!

10 minutes of screeching computer data used to be music to my ears!

Kids these days dont know they're born!

One quick question, does it annoying come up with "Read error b" when trying to load your fave game? lol

EDIT: Also, call me pedantic, but Martin, it wasnt a console, it was a home computer ;)

Two can be pedantic! ;) Read error b was never C64. I believe R Tape loading error was Spectrum. C64 had the more meaningful ?Load Error - or just reset itself!

Anyway, as stated above, there are many hacks for this unit on the net. A bit of soldering means you can add your own game images to the unit by flashing it.

Quite right and I stand corrected! :p I believe the "Read error b" was on the Amstrad CPC464 (which I also owned) I actually had the memory expansion pack for the 464 as well as the disk drive which used 3" disks (not 3 and a quarter like most) total crap! lol
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)
