loved the AMIGA 500 the best SILENT SERVICE what a submarine game that was and IMO that version is better than any modern submarine game around now.

we had a black thing which might have been either a Spectrum or an Amstrad which had two tiny little drive things on it, not much bigger than a USB port, but I think it was tiny tape cassettes that plugged into them
Alternatively, there was a version of the Sprccy that had 3" disc drives (like the Amstrad CPC464/664)
I still have loads of Microdrives lurking in drawers (not to be confused with the IBM Microdrive - basically a very small hard drive) - if only I could get at the stuff saved on them (a massive 100k-ish per cart!)
Oh, and thanks to the OP - I bought what appeared to be the last C64 joystick (to return to the original topic!) in the Basildon Woolies today - the first Commodore to cross the threshold here...:D
Au Res.,

It was very long and thin, black, and the two microdrives were at the right- hand side of the front edgeThanks to all who post constructively.
Have an A1 day!0 -
Definately the QL - Sinclair's somewhat last gasp attempt to enter business computing with a speed limited version of the Motorola chip later used in the Atari ST (whic his what I moved to from my Speccy), Commodore Amiga and the very early Apple Mac/Lisa beasties)
The only other 'computer' to use built-in Microdrives was the ICL OPD (One Per Desk)...
Au Res.,
Paul (suddenly realising that I have been tinkering with computers for FAR too long...)0 -
This had been driving me nuts since the thread was first started, so apologies for being slightly O/T.
Does anybody remember the name of a Speccy game where you had to collect pieces of a car and put it in the right place to progress to the next level. I think it played the theme tune to Laurel & Hardy all the way through. It was a maddening game even back then, even more maddening now that I want to play it but don't know what it's called!!!0 -

yeha i had a acornsoft aswell and remember the text adventures, there was a game called boulder dash that kept me and my dad glued to the screen for ages trying to work out how to get the diamonds without the boulders blocking our way. simple but very clever.
Hi Stolt; wasn't that game called Repton? I don't want to get my fond memories mixed up!0
