What's the deal?
Woolworths is selling 'plug'n'play' Commodore 64 joysticks for just £5. These are pre-loaded with 30 classic C64 games, and the best bit is you no longer need to wait 45 minutes for each game to load.
Where can I get one?
The plug'n'play joystick is currently on sale in-store at Woolworths for £4.99, nationwide. The next cheapest online is £15, so this is a good deal.
What's included?
Here's a list of the games:
Bull Riding,Championship Wrestling, Cyberdyne Warrior, Cybernoid, Cybernoid 2, Eliminator, Exolon, Firelord, Flying Disk, Gateway To Apshai, Impossible Mission, Impossible Mission 2, Jumpman Junior, Paradroid, Pitstop, Pitstop 2, Ranarama, Silicon Warrior, Speedball, Summer Games, Super Cycle, Sumo, Surfing, Sword Of Fargoal, Tower Toppler, Uridium, Winter Games, World Karate Champion A, World Karate Champion B, Zynaps
While many of today's kids'll turn their noses up at the graphics, many C64 lovers will know gameplay was the key, and some of the computer's top games are included.
Having said that, it wasn't close to my good old Spectrum

But the 10 minute wait was half the fun!
10 minutes of screeching computer data used to be music to my ears!
Kids these days dont know they're born!
One quick question, does it annoying come up with "Read error b" when trying to load your fave game? lol
EDIT: Also, call me pedantic, but Martin, it wasnt a console, it was a home computerMissing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
As an c64 gamer from back in the day i'm well chuffed to see this offer . True , half the games I've never heard of , and i had tons of games , but for summer games , winter games and impossible mission ("stay a while.....stay forever ! ") its worth the admission price alone ! If only they had Leaderboard , H.E.R.O , Bruce Lee , Way of the Exploding Fist , Commando , Spy Hunter , Beach-head , Raid Over Moscow , Hunchback , Forbidden Forest etc etc !!!0

My c64 with hundreds of games is in the back of a cupboard at my mum 'n' dad's. I'd love to get it hooked up and play some of the old games, but sitting around waiting for the tape to load haas always put me off, and the flashing bars on the loading screens always made me feel iffy, no 'flashing lights which may cause epliepcy' type warnings in those days.
A moneysaving alternative would be to download a C64 emulator for your PC, though there are legal issues with downloading ROMs (the game files) if you don't own the original game. Having said that, some publishers allow their games to be downloaded free or the publishers may have gone out of business. Not much money to be made from C64 games these days!Best Freebies:

Sony MP3 CD/Tape/Radio from Sonycard
£40 for opening FirstDirect current accounts

£20 Mothercare vouchers for setting up a £10 DD to my son's CTF

i`ve still got my c64 in the loft, doesn`t work though needs a power pack, but i`ll never get rid of it,, the emulators just don`t feel the same0

Home Bargains had these in before Xmas for £3.99, and my kids bought me one! Well worth the money, even though I was a Spectrum kid, rather than a C64.0

Do you only get a Joystick & games ??
How does this connect up, to the TV ??

Well!!
If Martin's getting all excited about this then we all know how he spent most of his childhood, don't we?:)
Actually, what you are getting here is a Commodore 64. NOT an emulator. This is not a standard plug 'n' play games machine - essentially it is the Commodore 64 re-released. This 30 game Plug 'n' Play device uses the original operating system of the Commodore 64, so the unit can do anything the original machine can do. The games are not "replicas" of the originals they *are* the originals - with the original graphics, original sounds and original breakthrough game play.
It still has the connections inside, for a keyboard etc.
There are hacks on the 'Net to do more with it.
BUT !! Please Note.
The one that woolies are selling is apparantly the NTSC version and NOT the Pal version so check your TV takes NTSC.

i had a amstrad 464 (i think it was) but i got to get one just to take me back...
do people remember in the computer mags in the day they would give you aload of code to type in to your pc screen and it would apparently create a very basic game, i never could get the damn things to work, use to spend hours typing those codes into the screen.
and they sound when the games use to load, just gave me a thought - that would make a good ringtone (maybe not, i'll get my coat)Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0
