Hello,
Can anyone please advise me if I would be able to claim charges that were made on my old Halifax joint bank account that I had with my now ex husband or do I have to have my ex husbands authorised permission to do this?
Apologies if post is in wrong place!
Many thanks.0 -

Got to the MCOL with HSBC (filed just under 2 weeks ago). Bank responded by filing intention to defend, today got letter with settlement figure of £3,376.35 (original amount of charges).
They don't want to pay for the statutory interest (another £1000 or so) but I'm thinking of accepting their offer anyway. The whole process has taken about 6 weeks...don't know what to do now!
What do you think?
If you are going to accept the offer without the interest at least make sure they pay your MCOL costs.0 -
HI THERE TO EVERYONE.I'M NEW HERE BUT WANTED TO ASK ANYONE IF THEY HAD HAD MUCH LUCK WITH CLAIMING FROM NATWEST? I SENT MY FIRST LETTER BACK IN FEB 07 AND PREDICTABLY THEY SENT IT ON TO ANOTHER BRANCH IN MANCHESTER.I GOT A LETTER TO SAY THEY ARE SORRY THEY COULDN'T DEAL WITH IT AND HAVE NOW SENT IT ON TO THE CUSTOMER SERVICES!THIS LETTER WAS SENT ON THE 13TH MARCH.I HAVE GAVE NUMEROUS PHONE CALLS TO THE CUSTOMER CARE CENTRE AND THEY SAID THEY REGISTERED THE COMPLAINT ON THE 24TH AT THEIR CENTRE.THEY ARE LIEING BECAUSE A COLLEAGUE OF THEIRS EARLIER SAID THEY'D RECEIVED IT AT AN EARLIER DATE.THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T TELL ME ANYTHING ELSE AND I COULDN' DO A THING UNTIL THE 8 WEEK DEADLINE WAS UP, WHICH ACCORDING TO THEM MAKES IT THE 24 MAY!!!!
I SENT ALL MY DOCUMENTS BY REGISTERED POST.I HAVE THREATENED THEM WITH COURT ACTION VERBALLY, AND THE STAFF JUST SEEM NOT TO CARE AND ARE READING FROM A COMPUTER SCREEN.THEY SAID THE BANK HAVE THE 8 WEEKS FROM THE DATE THEY REGISTERED THE COMPLAINT ON THEIR SYSTEMS AND THAT I'LL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THEN TO HEAR ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE THE RESOURCES TO DEAL WITH THE THE HIGH NUMBER OF CUSTOMERS WANTING THEIR CHARGES BACK.SO ALTOGETHER IT'S BEEN 2 MONTHS SO FAR AND NOTHING....I WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED AS WHAT HAPPENS NEXT....0 -

Hey moneysavers.
Just a quick question, I'm in the process of taking HSBC to court over charges totalling £515. I sent the first letter giving them 14 days and as if to just be cocky and irritating their reply reached me 2 days AFTER the deadline, fobbing me off with "I am investigating your complaint and will contact you with a full response as soon as possible". I wasn't convinced with this and so sent the second letter threatening court. However, I realised after having sent this second letter I'd accidently given them only 7 days, instead of 14. I don't want to go through the hassle of sending a letter correcting my mistake, but neither do I want to appear to be not sticking to my deadlines. Given that the 8 weeks rubbish is just the banks trying to stall for time, should I just stick to 7 days as I put in my letter? No matter what the banks try and say, there is no investigating they need to do really. They've charged me. They owe me it back! Simple as! What exactly are they hoping to discover by 'investigating' ? Rubbish thats what it is.....Any help would be appreciated. Thanks0 -

Just use your actual charges and calculate the interst using the calculator Martin has provided on the Reclaim you bank charges Help (click on the link in Edinburgh Lass's signature.
Don't send your statements back highlighted you have to set them out as a spread sheet. Easiest way is to copy and paste the calcuations you have entered into the interest calculator onto a word document. On the left hand column which is empty type in the description of each charge.
Send that with your letter (keep a copy for yourself too - they will probably ask for them again at some stage):D

Well, it used to be 7 days, then Martin changed it to 14 days in the template. Personally, I don't think it makes much difference, but if you want to be on the safe side, just wait 14 instead of 7 days until you file the court claim. No need to send another letter.Reclaimed thanks to this site:

Yeah well the result isnt going to be any different by giving them another 7 days...They don't even need 14 days as there's nothing to 'investigate'. They only need the extra time to respond to the ever increasing pile of complaints they're receiving! It cant really go against me can it, as the fact the charges are illegal changes not. Thanks Beate0
