i am new to chat forums and even posting a quote /comment or question is difficult to navigate, what i am wanting to know is, i had about £1100 in charges with yorkshire bank, they made me a 1st offer, and even sent the cheque of over £700, i refused, they didnt budge, so as it was near xmas i took it, cos i didnt realise you could claim all charges back, i was only led to believe it was a proportion of charges u could get back, same with the halifax they wouldnt budge on £298 when their charges were more than double that, when i got the money off them two, they said if i accepted then it was al done and dusted and no claims can be further made(cant recall the exact quote), is this true? can i go back and ask for more? please let me know thanks

Posting is a bit confusing at first if you arent used to forums so dont worry. To make a single post just click 'post reply' and to answer someone directly use 'quote' :)

The deciding point in you being able to go ahead and claim again is in the wording of your acceptance of previous setttlements. If you signed in 'full and final settlement' and promised not to claim again then I am afraid you are probably bound by that. The banks word their settlements carefully for this reason.

You would need to check exactly what the terms were and what you signed for. If you dont have copies of the letters request them from the bank. Maybe, just maybe, you can claim again but as I say, it depends on the wording.

    Good luck :)
  • Claiming back £550 worth of charges from Alliance and Leicester.

I received letter back saying that are not going to pay me my charges back, so I have now sent the 2nd letter saying that they have 7 days to reply otherwise I will be taking them to court and it has now been 2 weeks.

What do you think I should do next, give them a call or wait a little longer. My partner had to wait 3 weeks from when he sent the 2nd letter, his account is with TSB.

    Any advise would be appreciated.

I have been told by Natwest that i am going to get a full refund of my charges but the letter will not get to me until the end of April is this an honest answer or this a 'buy me some time until the OFT make a decision' answer.

Should i go onto MCOL to speed things up

i bank with natwest and when i called them on thursday i was told the offer ammount and told the letter would be sent to me beg of april
i told them there deadline is 1st april so if i have nothing on my doorstep that day i will claim from MCOL

i wouldnt wait longer then ur 14 days!

Wrote to halifax using the first template letter but got a reply within a couple of days to say this was being dealt with by the complaints department and they would get back to me with a full response. 14 days later - no further response so issued them with template letter 2, got a letter to say that they would reply by no later than 28th April!! first letter was sent on 22 Feb. So yesterday I applied for court action to be taken. so they now have 14 days to pay up or defend themselves.
The amount i am claiming is £950 plus court charges of £80. I don't even care about the interest as that doesn't bother me. I will keep you all posted as to what happens next.

i would stick to your guns, halifax said they would get back to me by the end of April - wonder if the banks have found a loophole that doesn't take effect til that date so they are postponing things til then. anyway my 14 days was up yesterday so i started court proceedings today.
