Reclaim Unfair Bank Charges Discussion Area

Has anyone had any success avoiding the threat of court action against the bank and used the financial ombudsman instead?
Just curious to know how effective they are as this would obviously be a better route to take as no fees are required to launch your complaint.
I'm still awaiting my statements and am taking on The Nationwide whom i'd led to believe are the biggest sharks in this, whom constantly wait until court proceedings are launched before paying out.
Also the fact im in Scotland would mean the amount i expect to reclaim would have to be dealt with in several small claims.
Good luck eveyone

Hi,
My court papers were served to first direct on 19th February, I have calculated that they have got untill the 19th March to reply, is this correct ? and what happens if I have heard nothing from them by then, what do I do then ?, and do I take action on the 19th March or wait untill the 20th ?
Thanks0 -

I would say that a joint account makes you both liable for any debt and also both due half each of any proceeeds you get from reclaiming charges whether its you or her apply as one or both of you can also easily build up any debt too.
Hope this helps x:T This site is great! Thanks to Martin Lewis & everyone who participates and helps so many people! Without you all, where would we be ??:T

hi yeah the charges im reclaiming r from 2 other accounts with lloyds that r just in my name could this still affect our joint account?
thanks again0 -
I have a question. I got into this early last year before all the furor happened and I settled (foolishly) with the bank for £1020. I know my charges were a lot higher than this but there wasn't much around then to instill confidence for pushing for more.
I find now that the bank is TOTALLY unhelpful when I have a problem and only this week have been charged £200 for going £50 overdrawn. I was made redundant in November (3rd) and rang Barclays about the protection I get in case of redundancy which they say I am entitled to (paying £13+ a month for the priviledge mind) Despite several phone calls, I find today that their excuse is they have been sending to an address I was living in 3 houses ago!!!!!! They say that they are sorry and are now sending forms out and backdating anything they owe. But that will not cover any charges since despite some of them making my life more difficult.
To cut a long story short: they are quick to charge and refuse point blank to help me out or refund any yet are conveniently slack and haphazard when it comes to owing me money!!! CAN I PUT IN ANOTHER CLAIM FOR CHARGES INCURRED FROM THE LAST CLAIM? I also have another account with Barclays. Can this be claimed from too. Thanks!0 -

Im not sure about lloyds but i know some banks are paying out the reclaim then closing any accounts you have with them, but some banks are not closing the accounts, again someone else here will let you know for sure.:T This site is great!
