My son has an 4.5 yo Hyundai i10. On it's last service when I picked it up the dealer told me thay had found a rattle from the front suspension on a road test so changed the suspension top pad under warranty. (i wasn't aware of it)

    we're about to swap it for a new i20 we're so impressed.

    :(

How strict are they to have the car fully serviced by them for 7 years thus incurring extra expense to the owner. I like to do simple things like oil/filter change/brake pads myself

Surely this would be something to consider?

If you want to maintain the warranty you have to at least have it serviced by a garage AND use only Kia parts but to be 100% safe you probably need to have Kia do all the servicing at the required intervals. You can take out a service plan when you buy a new car which may work out cheaper than paying for each service as and when.

Warranty does not cover the clutch which has been an issue for some folks. Kia/Hyundai have been fitting weak clutches in some models that fail early but when you take it in for a warranty repair, they claim you weren't driving it properly ! Google I20 clutch failure or Carens clutch failure to see the problem.

  • They just said it would cover 'most' things but not things like tyres. They didn't have a list or detailed warranty info.

I'm also hoping to find out if anyone has actually had repairs done and how easily Kia accepted the work was under warranty.

I have had the stereo and a wing mirror replaced under warranty. Stereo took them ages to get in but it was not really a problem as the one they replaced worked it just had a dodgy volume control. The wing mirror was no hassle at all. They looked at it during a service and replaced it the same day.

I think it is only a 7 year/100000 mile warranty so if me you do a lot of miles you will reach the mileage limit before 7 years is up.
    Iva started Dec 2018.

It has to be serviced either by mileage or every year +/- a little bit of wiggle room each way from the date of registration.

This can be done by a KIA main agent or a 3rd party using genuine KIA parts.

Its worth comparing prices as having a full KIA main agent history will get you more goodwill in the event of a claim.

call me a sceptic but consider this scenario

I get the vehicle serviced with a 3rd party using Kia parts

Very soon a expensive component fails and Kia claims that if it had been serviced by the KIA dealership instead of the independent, preventive measures would have been taken by them at the Kia service

So would the wiggle out of the warranty this way??

They might thats why if its the warranty you want, stick to Kia for everything.
