I don't see this as a problem. I would create the thread as E: 31/12 and edit it at Christmas to E: 30/06 and at Easter back to E: 31/12. If a year is included then I would use E: 31/12/2030 or something.

Thread titles can only be edited for a certain length of time after posting, not sure how long.

Weeowens, just want to make sure you know that I didn't mean you (or One-Eye for that matter). You come across to me as very kind in the way you correct us newer bods here :)

To move even further away from the original point, in my perfect world what I'd like is an automatic expiry, where as soon as forum time hits 00.00 on say 28/10, all the comps posted 27/10 would be moved automatically to GO, with the exception of those flagged as guessed. It's probably an unworkable idea, but I wanted to throw it out there.

Either that or more BG's but every time I mention that a tumbleweed appears ;)

Going back to the original point, I've just started redexing all comps I don't want to enter, instead of one ones that aren't obvious to me that I can't/don't want to. Whilst it'd be nice to have the option to hit redex on the thread list (don't see the need for the greentick personally, as you'd have to open the page anyway to open the link), I'm not wasting more than say 2/3 secs opening the link to redex, so I wouldn't mind either way whether the option to redex was there on the thread list or not.
Golly, I've got the newt pregnant...

    Hi renegadia.
Some good points there.Re the guessedenddate comps I think when they hit the date they would just get moved over via your proposed system. In an ideal world the BG team would spot all out of time comps but like you say an automatic MSE back system would be a lot better.
I'm not sure where you see where Green tick is not needed though.
For the majority of users its a great boon to spotting what has been entered via page view.
For the regular posters of comps it's a great idea as prior to it we had no way of marking comps that we had posted & then entered,as one cannot thank a post of one's own.
Lastly without it how would the non-thankers on here quickly mark comps that they had entered via MSE,without resorting to spreadsheets or such? The non-thankers would run the risk of duping entries without it being there wouldn't they?

    Ah, I miswrote my post!

What I mean is, the original post was to have to option to redex on the main complist thread (excuse my non-technical terms, I'm having a brainfart), without having to open the specific thread first. - That is a good idea, but I don't think there would be a need to have that as an option for the greentick, i.e. just keep the greentick as it is, but have the redex option as either in the specific thread (as it is) and also on the main list.

    Hopefully that's a lil clearer

See THIS THREAD where this issue was explored - it gets a bit technical but a solution is possible.

Thanks, my point was that the edit that was proposed under the current set-up would not work not that the forum was unable to be changed to allow it to happen.
On the forum I admin/mod it's allowed however old a thread is but that is small so it's possible to keep an eye on everything unlike MSE.

    Hi all,

    RE: Start and End dates

Thank you for the feedback. We're looking at the development of this at the moment.

Without straying too far from the question in my post, here is the final specification from all the relative comments.

    - Optional start date.
    - Mandatory End date
-- "Unknown end date" radio button for when the end date is unknown.
    - Start & End date to be visible near the thread title.

If you think something else should be in addition to this, please feel free to comment but otherwise we will begin to develop to this spec.

Start date is not needed at all - in the comments nobody wants it.

End date to be visible near the thread title - essential in both thread and forum view

Don't forget SORTABLE and SEARCHABLE requirements.

Thanks for taking the project forward.
