I think a few people said this before the X was implemented ...
This is the main reason why I couldn't see the point of it as you can hover over and make a decision whether to enter the post or not.0 -
Hi guys,
We're looking at potentially adding a start and end date fields specifically for the competitions board allowing you to quickly see (at board+thread level) when a thread (competition) starts and ends.
I have a couple of questions to help me develop this more to your needs.
- Would you prefer for it to be mandatory for you to provide a start and/or end date for threads in the competitions board?
- Or would you prefer to be able to leave the field blank if the detail is unknown (both start and/or end) and the detail is hidden if it is unknown?
Responses to this would be very helpful.

I would say yes for end date certainly. It would clear up a lot of issues with non-regular comp posters posting slightly incorrectly. As for start date, I don't know. If it's isn't mentioned in T&C's and you stumble across a comp, you wouldn't have a clue when it began? I guess I would find it unnecessary, but I'm not a prolific comp poster so can't really base my opinion on anything heh.

I wouldn't want the detail to be hidden if it's unknown. If a comp has no unrecognised end date usually a '?' after the detail is sufficient. Maybe if it was mandatory to post a comp but you didn't know the end date, if there was a tick box to say unknown date, but they also had to put an end date in before the comp could be posted, i.e.
Date - 31/10 -- unknown? - YES - Title - Win a whatever.
Which would then show up on the board level as
E: 31/10 ? Win a whatever.
Not sure if something like that works or is feasible but thats what I'm thinking if that helps any?Golly, I've got the newt pregnant...

I think an end date field is a good idea. I don't think a start date field is necessary. As suggested above, I think that if there was something like a box to tick to say if the end date is a defininte date, or an estimated end date, this would be good.
However, I don't think that your response has actually answered the original question about whether it would be possible to mark the red cross from the main competition listing without going into the individual posting. I think a lot of people would really appreciate it if this could be done.0 -
Hi MSE Joe, I don't think this is my area to comment on, but I'm going to be cheeky and while I know you're considering improvements, I hope you won't mind my asking about something else.
This may be too big an ask, because what I know about web design wouldn't keep a spider occupied. But do you think it would be feasible at some point to add a filter to the search facility? It would be so useful for compers because they could exclude facebook comps or whatever other search terms they wanted to exclude. It might also be useful generally for the website.

oh Joe :hello: it's great to know that there is thought of development going on :kisses3:
I think the absolute ultimate perfection would be a tab type format (like windows tabs), where you could click whichever tab you are looking at and filter through that :j so if you were doing end date comping you could click the end date and see all comps finishing on that particular date (whatever that may be, as some work a day or two ahead), or if you are comping by newest posts you can sort like that :jor if you were searching particular type of comps you could tab the description field and enter search ie holiday :j and even if you're searching through the sites you could filter them in order and just whizz by the ones you're not interested in :j
Perhaps even something like:
[Posted Date] [End Date] [Prize Details] [URL/Site Details] [Notes]
IF something like this were done it would aid all of us (compers and board guides) as it would make our lives so much easier to search and thereby creating less dupes :grouphug:
But first and foremost our best aid would be to have a decent search facility, where if you search ie E: 31/10 you get all comps starting that date (not just 12 pages)
:lovethougOh what a fantastic format that would be (in my opinion) :xmassign: :hello: #StaySafeWishing you a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year0 -
I agree that a start date is not really needed, as previously mentioned, 9 times out of 10 posters wouldn't know what the start date was. I think if you're going to add it, the end date should be a mandatory field, otherwise it would just be ignored a lot of the time.Luck is believing you’re lucky – Tennessee Williams

As Blulu has mentioned something else, I hope everyone doesn't mind if I ask something too.
I've mentioned this before and I wonder if it would be possible for the thanks button to be nearer the end of the line of buttons and nearer the x and tick rather than at the opposite end.
