MSE News: Is British Gas about to raise energy prices?

I'm puzzled now. Martin has just been on Radio 2 telling us all that we should grab a fixed deal today while we can get one. But I'm on E-on and their price is fixed until the end of December so if I fix now for 12 months I'm doing myself out of 3 months next year?
What should I do? Surely I can still fix later in the year, E-on have always got a fixed plan available. If I was with one of the others I would fix now but is there any point for me? Help!!
I didn't hear the programme, but are you sure he was not referring to those who were not currently on a fixed deal to go and grab one?
e.g. those 8.5 million customers who are on a variable tariff supplied by BG?
Well it's now on iPlayer
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01n64f1/Jeremy_Vine_Jeremy_discusses_rising_heating_bills/
and he specifically mentions those who are currently on a standard (i.e. variable) tariff.

This is bound to push up inflation at least for a while given fuel price rises and food increase due to weather in UK/USA. We have to endue it its just those at the bottom of the ladder tend to get worse deals (oh and I shop around) and also have very little extra left once, housing, food and energy costs are taken off0

6% each, which is the same as 6% on the total.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I think you mean that E-on are committed to not increasing their prices for the remainder of this year, so you are correct in saying you don't need to fix your prices now if you intend to stay with E-on. However the current fixed rate deals with other suppliers can be withdrawn at any time so it is worthwhile checking these prices for you to consider.
E-on have recently changed the way they price their new tariffs, so you might find their fixed price deals are cheaper than the current tariff you are on!!!0 -
As a BG shareholder I'm very pleased about this. They've done excellently over the last few years and the dividends keep getting bigger.
Well done BG from a shareholder ( who's a Scottish Power customer on a fixed tariff).

Shame you're not a centrica shareholder too, they are related to domestic price rises.0 -
As an existing customer they just gave me a £75 credit to my bill (didn't have to threaten to leave), just ask for the loyalty bonus0

I just read that in the Netherlands due to a worldwide decrease of wholesale gas prices, Dutch gas companies are lowering the gas price to customers. These are three of the larger, privatised gas companies doing this. Then why are they saying in the UK that costs have been rising, which they have to pass on to their consumers?0
