MSE News: Is British Gas about to raise energy prices?

  • Four of the "Big Six" are under foreign ownership - Centrica isn't one of them, although I'm sure there was rumours of a Russian outfit buying them a few years ago.
  • Just great 6 cartels all going to put prices up when demand is at its highest, its getting rather a habit for them to do this and blaming other factors. BG profits are up this year. The regulator pandering to the whims of these companies and not looking after the interests of the customers.

So why don't the government grow some and nationalise it, then force it to sell as a small profit organisation, the others can go bust for all we care...

Oh I forgot, good old Europe wouldn't like that, anticompetitive policy. Funny whenever you look at the problems in this country, inextricably its causes always leads back to Europe in some way.

And you're happy to pay higher taxes to take it back into public ownership?

I'm fairly certain some of the 200,000 people in this country whose job relies on the energy industry may care.

The Government may also have alternative thoughts on massively reducing a sector which contributes 5% of this countries GDP.

But hey, if it saves sillygoose 40 quid off her annual bill let's throw caution to the wind. :T

sigh, the endless cycle, CEO's cartel, CEO's kept in power by boards they generously reward, boards kept in control by investment shareholders they make big money for and at the bottom of the chain the little old lady dies frozen to death. Of course we are told the investment companies need the money as most of it goes into our pension funds, if only it did!

200,000 job losses? a bit dramatic! but even so are their jobs an acceptable price to pay for ripping off 70 million people. I don't think so.

And confusing I know but sillygoose is a he!
  • ....and the slight problem that North Sea output peaked at around year 2000, and is now declining at 6% each year...every year...until it gets to zero.

So we UK are going to have to have to get used to paying someone an increasing amount of money if we want the oil/gas to come to us rather than them sell it to another country.

Has anyone got any advice who to move to? I'm with British Gas at the moment but don't fancy a 9% increase. I got a leaflet from Sainsburys, any good?

Sainsburys is an excellent choice, you even get Nectar points. Only one problem Sainsburys energy is actually British Gas.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
