Hope everyone is having a good weekend so far :)

Iceland delivery today included Iceland vegetable spring rolls which are additive free and only £1 for 16 but yes they do contain palm and soya bean oils. Also small but delicious, made in China too and can be cooked in oven from frozen. Only 4.6g carbs per spring roll too.

May have mentioned before that OH loves his carbs and the whole idea of giving up bread is so :eek::eek: to him that he continues to stuff them. Over the last two weeks, he has started having stomach ache and bloating after eating. So we're starting him on a food diary because we both suspect wheat/bread as the primary culprit.

Is there anyone on the thread/reading it who eats gluten free ?

Kallo organic chicken gravy granules currently 2 for £1 ASDA.

Would it not have caused problems before though?

I have a friend who eats GF and it's quite difficult if we go out to eat, worse than me ;) and the 'replacement' bread/pasta products don't sound worth eating. I've tried a few GF items but can't say I'm impressed - but if that's all someone can have I guess they are ok. I had some GF choc nut org biscuits the other week and they were, probably to be expected, a bit hard and dry. Did you see the episode of the GBBO that had GF challenges on it?

Hmm.. don't know.. people can develop hay fever for example, at any time of life, according to my GP and OH has allergies already. It won't be coeliac disease but it may be wheat intolerance.

This from NHS Choices explains the difference between an allergy and an intolerance.

Think best thing we can do is a food diary. He's had no other symptoms apart from digestive ones.

If you've heard of Mondeo Man and Worcester Woman, there's now Aldi Mum, according to the Evening Standard along with Sainsbury's Localist, Metro Tesco Teenager, Waitrose Weekender, Supermarket Refusnik and Ocado Smuggie

I think there should be a Delivery Devotee as well !!

How is everyone after the storm ?

We have power but OH can't commute today as they are running skeleton service to London and not serving his station. It's half term which is lucky because otherwise it would have been chaos. Both our neighbours had garden damage but we didn't as OH battened down the hatches as it were.

Def seems like a day for some organic vegetable soup to me despite the brilliant sunshine !

    GM cereal in UK !!

  • Most of the wind has gone from the south-west, was quite blowy early this morning. Think the SE got it worse than us. :(

Must make some lentil and squash soup, it's definitely getting colder!

Thank goodness for organic heating - I'm gonna light a fire! :D

I posted on the freezer thread ^ since then still no trains here. Local community farm box scheme estimate 9k of damage..

Riverford have just posted this link for a sneak preview of their Christmas items, I won the 'gift hamper' last year and it was great, lots of different and tempting hampers this year and I could just eat that jar of devilled almonds now.

Oh yes. That's a good price for the gravy granules. Asda is a bit far for me but i'll see if they have enough for an online order.

It's very difficult for the person eating GF but it's difficult for those who go out with us as most places don't cater.

Most of the replacement items aren't very nice and sometimes we can be a bit naughty and make ourselves ill by eating things we know we shouldn't

Yep, as a veggie I'm more used to being the one the venue has to be chosen around but with gf I say she chooses - it's a bit shocking how few places cater for it, not in providing alternative items but it seems more naturally gf items could be on menus.

Friend does the same, occasionally eats things that will cause problems on say a Friday night when she can be at home the next day.

I went to Wholefoods at last, wow, big store and really busy. On two floors, one full of amazing takeaway type stuff plus a cafe seating area, fresh pizza slices, bakery items (inc flour power bread), mexican wrap bar made while you wait, rotisserie chicken section, smoothies, hot/cold food bar where you help yourself to a mix of everything from salads to hot meals that you just pay per 100g so you can pick and mix a box full plus the beauty section with so many brands I like. The other floor is more the groceries with all the usual wholefoods, fish/meat counter, olive bar, muesli bar, veg section, nut butter bar where you can mix your own (or buy it ready done), olive oil bar to measure out a bottle of various types, and lots of loose wholefoods you can measure out what you want, few cookery pots, cookbooks and cleaning stuff inc Ecover and few other brands. Downsides are that I thought they could have had much more organic items, it was a bit disappointing to pick some things up that had sulphites in and lots of the loose wholefoods were non org, lots of things I couldn't reach and on the hot/cold food bar there was spillage between items and things like tofu was in the next box to say salmon or chicken where I think they could have had a whole section of meat and another as veggie as there were so many sections it could have easily have been sorted separately. Good to see vegan items in the food bar were labelled. I did see some things in organic that have been difficult to source however. Definitely worth a visit and I will be back.
