Organic food in supermarkets

Kirri - I lurve the Abel & Cole eggs, might try some Riverford ones though and share them with my mother. I took her down half a dozen A&C on Saturday and she loves them. She's contemplating doing occasional orders with A&C and Riverford although she likes going to Sainsbury's.
^ Sounds like my mum! I just think it saves so much time and effort having it ordered.
A&C seem a bit cheaper on the things I've ordered today ie stilton, eggs. Couldn't resist the Brown Cow mini yoghurt multipack as well though that wasn't cheap! I wanted to try all the flavours though (I've reused the pots from the couple I tried before as they make good 1 portion sizes of crumble for the freezer..) and added in some soya cream and soya choc desserts to try.
Just looked at Farmaround and the veg bag prices seem quite good, fancy the Mediterranean one or the luxury option. Even though I eat a lot of veg I am mostly buying veg/salad one week and just salad the next. Got a lot of dairy coming, a free OJ from A&C. The Riverford pears that came in the salad box were excellent the other week though I wasn't over keen on the fruit bag the week before. Just salad, mushrooms, oil and muesli from them this time.rufydoofyM wrote: »Pimhill muesli 1kg (as it appears to be better value than the supermarkets)
I've just ordered the 1kg nutty Pimhill muesli to try, hope I like it given the size of the bag! Does seem good value at £3.99. I love muesli with the Brown Cow yoghurts..
Just finished a Dorset Cereals muesli (which was £1 more expensive iirc and only 750g) so see how it compares, like the fact the Pimhill one has 3 types of nuts in.0 -
I know this is a tad unlikely but ... does anywhere national or that delivers sell organic eggs that are closer to 20p+ an egg? I don't mind purchasing 15+ at a time, I use three at once so 35p an egg is never going to happen. At present I am on free range at 14p an egg.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

rufydoofyM - I bought OH the Pimhill muesli too as it seemed good value for money
and Kirri he had Dorset Cereals muesli before that, when it was on offer at Lidl.
rufy well done on the YS bananas. Cheapest place I've found for organic Fairtrade bananas is Lidl and they aren't the teeny ones like ASDA and Morrisons either.
katep23 thanks for that I've got one of those formerly Wyevales near me. Could drag my mother there Monday.
bornintoit I vaguely remember Liz Jones when she wrote for Sunday Times and I agree she seemed self-centered - didn't she have some struggling novelist toyboy she married ??
Doesn't seem a bad price for compost to me.. my garden is a bit too small to make my own too, so our garden waste gets shifted down to my mother's garden. The council collects the food waste every week and it gets composted. Not sure how healthy plants would be on the average British diet of composted Pot Noodles, frozen pizza and baked beans
Fire Fox.. cheapest organic free range egg prices I could find
Sainsbury's SO organic free range woodland 6 medium 1.85
ASDA organic free range 6 mixed weight £2
Tesco organic free range 6 mixed weight £2
Tesco organic free range 10 mixed weight 3.05
Stonegate organic free range 6 medium 1.85 Ocado
Abel & Cole organic free range 6 petite 1.70
Hen Nation organic free range 6 mixed weight eggs 1.99 Farmaround
Actually I think eggs are incredibly good value for money.. 4 teeny lamb chops £6 is one meal, a dozen large organic free range eggs 4.78 = 6 breakfasts0 -

I'm not sure about the toyboy but I remember being disgusted when reading that when she realised her marriage was coming to an end she decided on the following plan to become pregnant "I resolved to steal his sperm from him in the middle of the night. I thought it was my right, given that he was living with me and I had bought him many, many Marks & Spencer ready meals." When it comes to my opinion of Liz Jones I think Phillip Schofield put it best "I swear there can be no greater force against all womankind than Liz Jones. She is inconsistent, bitter, nasty and unhinged."
I have to be honest I have been fond of baked beans but the other two I steer clear of. My small garden is mostly paved over and what there is the 5 cats from next door regulary use as their toilet so I can't imagine it would be that good to grow vegetables due to the alkaline content?
I tried Sainsburys SO Tomato Ketchup today and wasn't very keen. Seemed rather bland to what I am used to.
The Simply Delicious Organic Mayonnaise I ordered through Ocado on the otherhand is the best mayonnaise I have tried. Almost tastes homemade, can't rate it highly enough.'Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves'0 -
She sounds unhinged to me, too
Heinz does an organic tomato ketchup, I've bought it for OH in ASDA and Sainsbury's in the past and sure it must be stocked by Ocado. OH and I don't cook with sugar or salt and we find things like ketchup too sweet now.
Organic beans are easy to find - other than Lidl I think most of the supermarkets do them. Cheapest are Sainsbury's So organic 57p IIRC. OH likes the Heinz ones occasionally for work.
Cats.. you can buy lion poo which supposedly scares them off. they don't like coleus canina plants either. If any of the fencing is yours, you could stick/screw Prikka Strip on the top which they wouldn't like walking on. IME ultrasonic deterrents don't work well.
Ran out of cottage cheese so OH went to Tesco Express and bought back Tesco Everyday (59p). Unlike the reduced fat option it was additive free but nevertheless way too watery with mushed lumps and a strange smell eww. A definite Avoid.
Suddenly thought about loo rolls..
I stocked up on Andrex Eco when they were 3 x 9 rolls for 10.50 at Ocado. That offer has finished now but there is one for 2 x 9 rolls for 7.50 to 02/04/13.
Velvet loo rolls have some tree planting promise and Iceland has 12 for the price of 9 ie £4 ATM. https://www.velvettissue.com0 -
Found this discount shop online called The Range. The nearest one to me is about 40 miles away so mail order cheaper than train. I remember now that I used it once before when I had looked everywhere for a butter dish,
Found biodegradable pots made of cow manure.. cow pat pots :rotfl:which have been reduced

Bornintoit: Show the kitties some lurve! But to discourage pooping try cocoa shells as a mulch, when they get damp they gum together and cats don't like them on their paws. Also reduces weeding and rots down to feed the plants.
Thanks Edwardia, you are the font of all knowledge.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

There is one particular kitty who always hangs out at the front and back door waiting for me because he knows I will give him cuddles. Had to reduce cuddle time though as he thought it was a cue to rush inside my house everytime I opened the door! When my sons dad came to pick him up the cat rushed into his car when he opened the door to get out hahaha.
The cocoa shells sound like a good idea. I like the fact they are multi-purpose - very MSE'Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves'0 -
Previous owner of our house had a cat and therefore cat flap in the back door. I was sprawled on the floor reading in front of a log fire and looked up, to be freaked out by eyes belonging to a local cat that had snuck in the house. The cat flap got firmly duct taped until spring when we bought a new back door.
Now that the gourmet labrador is goneI may have to reduce my milk order. I'm going to offload 2L on my mother on Monday as I've got 4L coming. Why don't companies do 3L containers ?
Riverford milk just isn't anywhere near as good as Abel & Cole or Calon Wen, just tastes like supermarket stuff to me even though unhomogenised. It will be interesting to try the Cow Nation stuff.0 -
Moroccan organic argan oil from Yotam Ottolenghi, 16.50 for 100ml is not actually most expensive I've seen. There's a prob with the photo of the bottle it seems.
