Sorry been in the pantry Pollybear, our instructions were just as useless but can't remember how it all went together, I know we had bits of screws etc left over too :o saying that it's still standing 6 years ish on, only thing we did have to do was put a plastic sheet inside under the roof as in heavy rain it leaks. Pleased to hear yours is up and sorted.

Pantry now cleared (ok I threw it shelf by shelf into empty washing basket) cleaned, listed and repacked. :o did find a few out of date items. Sin list inc 2 small tins of ham that had fell down the back, 4 cans of slimfast (bought on bogof was horrid so didn't use rest) jar of chicken paste gone a funny colour and a jar of honey, ewww that looked nasty!

Plus side, or is it a downside depending which way you look at my overbuying, I have sooooo much stuff in there it's crazy. I have wrote everything down that is in there and going to do a proper spreadsheet for it, couldn't fit everything on the one I laminated :o but at least I came out alive!

Also just washed DSs fish tank out again, gave it a rinse the other day but looked at it and was still a funny colour so just washed it and it's stone.

Maralum, yes you're right, you are normal, noone expects you to be superwoman on here, I remember a signature I read which sums it up
'The people who mind don't matter and the people who matter don't mind'

zozot welcome, there is always hope, just takes a little inspiration and encouragement. Don't try to do everything overnight being my biggest tip, hope you enjoy joining us. Monday will be the new start to the week (I'll post the link in here when the lists done) would suggest maybe starting from there ? Stick with us, it may seem complicated at first but I am sure those who have stuck with us will agree that it becomes easier, much easier, as time goes on.
One day I might be more organised...........

  • hi all - well did car boot - only got £20 but thats £20 i wouldn't have had and did clear lots of toys - i sold everything v cheap - i then dropped box off at hospice shop and another in recycling so am pleased with clear loft!! am going to use money pay for some food as had bad start to month and will be over budget so am trying to use any 'extra' money to help out so no more than budget comes out of bank!! :o

have done a washing load and bolognaise defrosting on side as well as ironing and dw this morning so pleased, :T

zozot - welcome on board - my advice would be take it slow - my house didn't look like it did overnight and it never got sorted over night - it does all come right and try not to play catch up but a little to each room each week

maralum and happyathome - i too play the guilt game  - i also gave up my job - have no desire to return (did recently for odd day but 30 4 year olds just too much as i have a 4 and a nearly 2 year old at home!!!) i have guilt if do too much house work, guilt that i played with one mroe than the other one day, guilt that played wrong games!!! so yes it maybe is normal - am trying to ditch the guilt at mo and just enjoying what i do!! but nice to know others feel the same!!

see - here i am after car boot all afternoon neglecting children to be on here :rotfl:

Hiya, well the DIY fell by the wayside sharpish as it's been an absolute scorcher here today, too good an opportunity to miss being outside. I've been very productive, weeded, mowed, scrubbed the path, weeded in the cracks, wood treated my 2 benches.. It's great how folks you don't know'll stop and chat when your gardening, been here 3 years and only just had the 'what we do for a living' conversation with my nearest neighbour.
On the bathroom makeover front, I've decided the new blind is way too much hassle so I stardrop scrubbed the mould off the existing bamboo blind. I want it dark wood colour though and had no replies on the DIY forum (everyone out DIYing I guess!) as to whether I can stain it or not.
Not at all qualified to join in the motherly guilt chat but a conversation a friend (who is a parent) and I had lately about the things we remember from our own childhood springs to mind. We decided it never really mattered how much or little effort our parents put into entertaining us in the hols, we came away with our own memory of the day. Organising a cinema trip, getting me and 4 friends to town, paying all of us in as a half term treat, you can bet all we remembered was the kid with the wierd teeth in the queue behind us.. IMO every mother that tries is a great mother.

Back to flying, I WILL do the spare room and the ironing tonight. Welcome too to Zozot, I'm newish too, I'd say just keep pecking away at the chaos.

scaredy cat- good going at the car boot, money in your pocket and an empty loft to boot.

lil_me- great job done on the pantry, thanks for the kind words about my DS, yes he is a little darling, at times!

michelle- I do like the 4 square boxes for prioritising jobs. Trouble with me is I'm a great list maker, it's the practical I fall down with.

    Pollybear- how's that shed looking?

aimee- hope you all had fun swimming this afternoon

zozot- hello there, i've only been flying for a couple of weeks and am enjoying the results seen in such a short space of time. just do what you can from each list each day and as others have said it will get easier

At the jumble sale today I bought a lovely Next jumper for 50p, a little gadget for making mini pastry turnovers for 25p (which I used this evening with a jam filling) and a record card box complete with A-Z cards for my recipes to go in for 50p. I was well chuffed with that on it's own!
At the maritime market I managed to find a Breakfast menu served on board Queen Elizabeth on Sat July 12 1958. Dad was working as a steward on the cruise ships then so in all probability served up that breakfast to passengers and to make it even more special July 12th is mine and DH's wedding anniversary. It only cost £1.50 and I'm going to get it framed. Trouble is I'm so excited I might not be able to wait until Christmas to give it to him.
So the rest of the day has been spent dropping off the bags at the charity shop that DS sorted from his room, finishing tidying the shed, all 3 of us playing games in the garden.
Just a bit of ironing to do later to try and keep on top of it so it doesn't build up like the mountain I had before.

Then I'm going to start writing out some recipes. Simple pleasures!
...it is not of more importance than daily life, which I have an enduring wish to make as useful and beautiful as possible.

Solway I have seen people stain bamboo blinds before but sure it went a bit funny as the bamboo soaked up the stain in some places but not in others, hopefully someone will get back to you on the DIY forum.

tinselfairy fab bargains, good idea with the index box :) Loving the menu idea, how perfect that it's also your anniversry too :) Wilkinsons had some nice frames last time I was there, decent prices too, depending what type you would like of course.

Well I did the shameful thing and forgot to make the kids dinners, I was doing poop patrol and sorting the plants etc in garden while they were playing in the sand pit, next thing I know it's 6.30pm so their dinner is on now. Hence having 5 as it cooks. Going to just pop a baked spud in for me again, baked off a few yesterday while oven was on so just need to warm one up.

Tonights undies night :( no nothing rude, worse luck, I have a big basket of undies to sort through, from socks to pants. I HATE this job, almost as much as I hate ironing, but it needs doing so tonight is the night I tackle it, tend to leave it for weekend nights when DPs at work to get it done as I throw the lot on the bed as I sort out(exciting life eh :rotfl: )

    Evening.

I've been being social for a change. DH was helping his mate move, and rang me to see if i wanted to go and meet them to have lunch in a pub, so i did. :D A couple of hours out with a bit of good banter, and it was lovely.

Popped in to the ASDA on the way home, but didn't stick to what i went in for. I thought if i bought a couple of extra bits today, it would save me going to do the big shop for a bit longer as it is silly things like baby milk that you run out of, and then spend a bomb. Spent £30, but £12 was on baby milk, and another few quid on baby cereal/rusks/bicciepegs. So less than £15 on DH and myself isn't that bad. May get some fruit and veggies from Netto next week, as it will help the pennies go further, but i want to decide what baby purees to make next.

Cos we both had a big meal, i don't think i'll be cooking tonight, ;) so i don't think i will be doing very much else. Bit of a kitchen sort out. It's great to chill out isn't it.

Our shed is looking good - we've got a lot of screws left too, I hope they were just being generous and it's not in a big pile in the morning. It feels solid enough though. We went out to get a new padlock tonight because the old one was a bit small and fiddly to fit on the different shape door handle but that will have to go on tomorrow as it was getting too dark when we got home. We've got the old one on tonight. There's nothing really valuable in there anyway, it's just gardening stuff really and even my mower is only a cheap one. I bought a couple more plants while I was out and will have to put them in tomorrow. I've given them a good watering though.

Bath and bed to read soon I think, nothing I want to see on television. Never is on Saturday.

Well I've felt yakky all evening, cough got worse, not helped by a fire somewhere, haddn't noticed it at first and doors and windows were wide open. Some of undies sorting is done but not all, will finish tomorrow.

Pollybear - we've just put up a new shed too. DH just finished off the doors yesterday. It's taken us three week off and on LOL Now we just have to empty out the garage and put some stuff in there.

I've been a bit miserable the past couple of days - achey all over, couldn't get warm. So I've spent most of my time going between the couch and the bed.

Today I'm feeling a bit better - not so sore, and back to normal temp. I think.

We had a family clean up this morning:

    OH cleaned both bathrooms, washed laundry floor, cleaned out DW;
    I wiped kitchen bench, vacuumed living areas, did three loads of washing;
Kids dusted, wiped window sills and walls, vacuumed rest of house.

So . . . it's not looking too bad, considering.

I now just need to get finances up to date, and decide what is for dinner tonight.
