Correct - it can't display any channels in HD without having an HD input source (e.g. Freeview HD, Freesat, Blu-Ray player, etc.).
Although since it's only a 19 inch screen, you're really really not going to notice much benefit from the picture being HD anyhow.0 -
The Toshiba 19DL502B is NOT Freeview HD (the "HD-Ready" part of the description refers to the screen), so you will need a separate Freeview HD box to be able to view RTE etc on it.
(it's the same TV as we have in our kitchen)
Thanks very much! I'll organise getting myself one of those boxes. Ha ha I'd better not end up getting the wrong one0 -
I've looked in Currys and Tesco so far. Currys have a Goodmans GDB18FVZS Freeview box and a Goodmans freeview set top box.
Tesco have a Technika freeview hd set top box and a Technika digital freeview hd set top box.
So it seems there is a difference in these boxes too. Its as bad as the TVs. Would the one in Tesco be the right sort to get?0 -
If it says "Freeview HD" on it (regardless of the manufacturer or the shop where you buy it), you'll be ok.
By the way, the Toshiba 19 inch really is a bit of a pile of dung. I've never seen a TV which takes so long to react to the remote control after it's been switched on...0 -
Goodmans GDB18FVZS is not freeview HD, so no RTE
Tesco Technika Freeview HD seems to be the one on this list
(Anyway Tesco has a very good refund policy you if the box doesn't work to your satisfaction)0 -
I got my Goodmans Freeview HD box from Asda Direct for under £40. It was out of stock when I first looked at it but I asked to be e-mailed when it came back in and it was back in stock within a few days. Arrived at store (free delivery to store) in a few days after ordering.

Another question, this time its my Mum's tv. She got an old TV and she got a box for it on the digital switchover scheme. There was a problem with it and an engineer came out and fixed it. Now its got another problem. The box is supposed to have 2 lights but there's only one, the red power light, no green light. Everything is plugged in, I checked the manual. There is no picture on her tv, its snowy instead.0

Try taking the power lead out of it (the Freeview box), wait 30 seconds or so and then plug it back in again. It's possible it may have hung.
If that doesn't work, get onto the switchover help scheme again and get them to give you a replacement box.0 -

BBC4 works fine.
BBC1 still works on analogue ok so signal getting in somewhere!!
Checked all the BBC radio channels and they're ok too.
Checked with neighbours and their BBC channels are fine.
Rescanned again and they'll work for a few minutes.
It's still only BBC1, 2 and 3!
Help!!!
When you're rescanning are you doing an auto search or manual search?
If you haven't already - try a manual retune; instructions in the link.
