Correct Protocall when pulled over by the police

My daughter got stopped for having no MOT or insurance. Well, they were wrong. Their computer had not registered her insurance but she was fully insured, was able to give them policy number etc. As for the MOT, well the car was only two years old.The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

I'd wait for them to come to meTakeaway_Addict wrote: »Just wondering but if you get pulled over by the police are you...
a) Meant to get out of the car to meet the policeman/woman
b) Meant to wait in the car until intructed by the Policeman/woman
c) Something else

Reasons for getting out of the car:
-You don't end up being spoken down to.
-Yourself and the police officer will spend less time closer to moving traffic.
-It will be clearer to the police officer that you don't intend to drive off and aren't concealing anything.
Reasons against:
-Being in a country other than the UK. In some countries it would be illegal (e.g. Poland). In the USA you'd probably get shot.0 -
But it may look like you are planning on _running_ off or that you are planning on dumping something that you have so far been concealing. It will be clearer to the police officer that you don't intend to drive off and aren't concealing anything.
I think it works both ways (if they are assuming that you are guilty of something then anything you do can be made to reinforce that assumption), so personally I would wait in the car until told otherwise.0 -
... you might want to consider the nearly 6000 people who died in police custody between 1999 and 2009
http://www.ipcc.gov.uk/en/Pages/deathscustodystudy.aspx
You might read that again.
The figure given seems to be 333
And that will include people dying of natural causes.0 -

-If you run off on foot, and plow through a crowd of people, you won't kill a large number of them.
-How much space would one get to dump something they were concealing after a few minutes of running at 12mph vs getaway driving at 80?
Get out of the car, move to a safe place for both of you and politely & constructively discuss their reasons for pulling you over, human-to-human. It's the British thing to do.
We'll end up with those stupid rude flourescent ping-pong rackets they use in Europe at this rate!0 -
My strangest encounter with a traffic cop was when one pulled me over after ( Unknown to me ) misreading my reg. number, he had read it a *668*** rather than *663***.
Having stopped me he asked if it was my vehicle, I answered "Yes". He then said "good morning Mr *****, We've been looking for you for a while now haven't we?"
My reply was I'm not Mr ***** I'm Mr xxxxx.
Cop - "So why is car not registered to you?"
Me - "It is."
Cop - "How long have you had it?"
Me - "2 years"
Cop - It is NOT registered to you, have you any ID?"
Me - No, but I have a ferry ticket in glove box for this car and me, with reg. number & MY name on it."
Cop - Not proof of anything that - please step out of the car."
Me - "Why, what's the problem?"
Cop - (Getting stroppy now) " Get out of the car now, I know who you are Mr *****."
Me - "I've told you I'm not MR*****"
Cop - (Whist radioing for back-up) "GET OUT OF THE CAR NOW"
Me - (After getting out of the car) "What is your problem?"
Cop - (Whilst checking car over and looking at tax disc) "Oh - 1 minute please sir" - goes on to do a PNC checkwith the actual reg. "very sorry Mr xxxx, I read the 3 as an 8, very sorry - no problem, you may go."
At the time it was very frustrating and I was starting to get angry with him, but looking back I wish he hadn't noticed his mistake - could have been fun and games because he was getting very close to arresting me as Mr ****, would have been interesting at the cop shop.
Also, I would love to know what Mr **** had done.0
