Been there, done that, had the points.

Didn't see the police car on a side road while doing 40+ in a 40. When stopped the policeman said that they had noticed my tail light out but weren't going to follow it up until my actual speed registered on their kit.

That's a sad thing to happen, but people die doing all kinds of jobs. It's not like serving in the army in Afghanistan in terms of risk - you're much more likely to die at work if you are, say, a builder (50 deaths last year), or a farm worker (30 deaths last year), than a police (an average of fewer than 2 deaths per year).

Lots of people choose to do jobs that put them at risk. Emotive references to the deaths of police in Manchester, particularly if the police in question are in say, Downing Street, do nobody any favours.

(There are other reasons to give respect to police of course, but this isn't one of them.)
What a garbage analogy - builders and farm workers aren't put in situations where they are likely to be murdered or confronted by physical violence.

Bend over, drop trolleys and offer the vaseline with the LEFT hand. Using the right hand is seen as impolite.

    1. Stay in your vehicle - end of.There is no reason for anyone who is stopped to get out.

We buried our second colleague in Manchester today - both officers were murdered for "doing their job"

Please take 5 minutes out to watch the above link and then ask yourself - when was the last time you put your life on the line to serve others ? (Armed Forces personnel need not reply )

So to all on this thread making smart remarks, thanks for your respect.

While the deaths of these officers is an appalling tragedy you might want to consider the nearly 6000 people who died in police custody between 1999 and 2009 need they reply?

You mention respect, the whole world saw the respect the police showed Ian Tomlinson killed in London during G20.

Do you make a habit of apologising, for something you haven't done

You clearly don't understand the difference between sucking a$$ and apologising. Try working for an American company and you'll soon learn the difference...

Unless i'm missing something, this report suggests 333 people died in police custody between 99 and 09.
The research used completed investigations to gather data on all 333 deaths which occurred between 1998/99 and 2008/09.

I would have happily killed the chump who built my bathroom last year. Had to have to have it done again at a cost of over £2k last week.

"Death in Custody" is also a misnomer, because yo uwill see the IPCC quite rightly look at all deaths following "contact with police" and these get lumped in with the numbers.
We are not talking about 333 people dying in police cells, vans, or handcuffs.

It's horrific, I've known it happen on a few occasions but thankfully never been directly involved, bbut the way it is reported you'd often think the polices preferred outcome is for some poor person to lose their life in their hands. No-one wants anyone to die, but when you deal with some of the most vulnerable people in society on a daily basis, it's inevitable taht some of them may come to harm as a direct or indirect result of police action.

    Anyway, that's hugely off topic.

If you just be polite then you'll most likely be fine. You'll certainly put yourself in the top half of the coppers dealings that day, which can't be a bad thing.

Funny how you failed to mention the part of the report where it said that 66% died of natural causes. But lets not let the truth get in the way of a very poor and biased rant.
