  • This might sound a very silly question but when you add vinegar and essential oils are the essential oils like the ones you get in gift boxes or from Body shop.

AND do these ingredients go straight in the drum or in the drawer of the washer/dryer (Thats what I have)

    THANKS

  • I never use softener and now use tumble drier balls - they give excellent results! You can now get tumble drier balls in the pound shop - worth every one of the 100 pennies !
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)
  • Hi all,

Sorry if this takes a slightly different route gardener ruth, but I have a related question, I hope that's ok?

I have one of those fluffy dressing gown, made of synethic materials, not cotton.

Does anyone know how I can wash it and keep it fluffy?

    Many thanks

    PGxx

    Hi Ruth,

There's an older thread with lots of ideas on making towels soft and fluffy so I've added your thread to it as it helps to keep all the suggestions together.

  • Thanks everyone for all your suggestions, I'll try some of them and see what happens. Seems like I should be going for soft, but not too soft!

    Yes for the oils.

AND... the vinegar and oils go in the fabric conditioner bit of the soap drawer. About the same amount of vinegar as you would use of fabric conditioner.

Squeaky is right (as usual! ;) ) - many many years ago I read that the best skin softener was to dry with unbleached athletes towels which I think were very hard; not sure if they're still available?

I use about half the recommended quantity of soap powder, use vinegar as a fc to get rid of any leftover soap - the thing that kills fibres quicker than anything! - and give every towel a really good shake before I hang it, and again when I take it off the line and fold. I've always done this double shake with all my washing (as did my mother) and it does make for easier ironing too. I suppose it separates fibres or something?

if you shake hard enough it'll make a very loud noise and frighten the kids/OH/cat/dog :D

My towels aren't soft, but not stiff either! ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

I also use vinegar and then line-dry. I try to wash my towels when it's a windy day, as i find if a gale is blowing round the washing line, that the towels are much much
    fluffier!

    Thanks, Mother Nature!

I need to get a posting in double quick - my post count is 666  !

I don't like my towels to be too soft, but when grandchildren stay over you just can't wrap them in the rough towels that I like for myself. So any new ones are kept really soft and fluffy with FC and tumbled - but then put at the bottom of the towel pile where they won't get used until I really want them out.

I find that a 'rough' towel is like giving yourself a body scrub - helping to exfoliate, stimulates the circulation and generally 'really wakes you up' in a morning!

    Phew now that's 667 :j !!!
