Be careful of trying to do this. I tried it the other week. Generally libraries aren't open very handy times, parking close by can be a problem too, or limited. Then you have to have the right card for the library - and then you'll have to book in advance. Once you've actually found the library is open and you've parked and managed to book a slot and sat down .... you'll find the PC deathly slow and people being behind you very "creepy" and there's usually an oddball lurking.

Another "rule" I encountered was that you can only have a half hour slot, or a one hour slot (different libraries/different rules). And you can only have 2-3 hours/month. Beyond that you pay....

Overall, it was a super-sh1te experience. I tried 5 different libraries (requiring 3 different cards). Not pleasant... not pleasant at all....

Just for checking emails though - should be OK.

    They'd do that.

Really, is that all? You get an hour a day round here, plus the big libaries are open until 7pm. Every LA runs very differently though.

I can't guarantee that the systems won't run slow or that you won't be sitting near strange people mind. Though I can't guarantee that to people shopping at Tesco either. There were some really strange people there today, didn't know what they were doing, where stuff was, wandering up and down the aisles randomly with kids in tow. All dads of course, doing their bit once a year.

Yes. Had to rid himself of Candida apparently. Was gluten free the whole time too just to add to the misery. All of this was in the days when there were no commercially available 'free from stuff'.

Zag... you were not in on this were you?
No but one of my first flatmates in London had ME. She couldn't eat an amazing amount of things because vitamins (and other stuff) from yeast are added to just about everything. I think it followed a bout of glandular fever but this is the 80s so can't trust I'm remembering it right.

I'm afraid that detox diets were known as the cure searching for a disease. Ben Goldacre, what were you doing when we needed you?

As regards fungi growing on food, I love peanuts but if any are mouldy I'd chuck in in the bin and wash my hands. Some of the fungi that grow on nuts cause liver cancer.

There's a weird meat allergy you can catch in America if you're bitten by an insect. I gather they're treating it as a contagious vegetarianism!:D

I gather it puts an end to the claim you can't be allergic to lamb.

Another vote here for eating the rice if it's been properly stored. :)

My view is that it's too much house on too little a plot. Four storeys aren't really practical for a family, there isn't enough outdoor space or enough parking for the number of rooms.

I agree. I also think that if you've got enough people to occupy five bedrooms, then one living room isn't enough - better to call it four bedrooms and two living spaces, so you're not on top of each other. My house here has a bigger downstairs than upstairs, and I love it. I want plenty of space for being awake in - don't need space so much when we're asleep.

This morning we had a visit from SB with a lovely bunch of flowers for Mothers Day and a beautiful card to accompany them. So we all went out for a lovely lunch to a Restaurant with a beautiful views of the Isle of Wight, afterwards a lovely stroll along the cliff tops to work off the food.

Just before SB arrived home by train we received a call from the EA saying that he had a couple interested in a viewing within the hour but that the staff were all out on viewings and would we do the viewing ourselves, my OH loves showing people around the property when given the chance so we ok'd it.

To cut a long story short I excused myself saying that I was going out to meet our daughter off the train and left my OH showing them around. When SB and I got home the couple were just leaving in their car and about thirty minutes later the EA rang to say that the couple were so delighted with the Bungalow that they have made an offer which we are delighted with, so over lunch we discussed it together and decided to accept, it was so nice the SB was included in our days enjoyment so now we are quite excited at the following weeks ahead but fully aware that we will not be counting our chickens before they are hatched.:)

PS The Bungalow has been on the market three weeks today.

Congratulations Bertie & Mrs Bertie and SB. Sounds like a lovely day for you all.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I hope they appreciate your hard work in outing them as ordinary.:)

Ordinary is good. It means that it isn't all made up.

I've a friend with a similar house near there. Not a big plot but loads of rooms for your money. Not a big garden and no driveway but the cost of a parking permit for a year seemed ridiculously cheap by London standards.
I can't understand houses that have one big reception room. Open-plan seems like a peculiar American insanity we were mad to adopt.

Rooms aren't just for kids. Loads of reasons why somebody might have a 4/5 bed house and under-occupy it. e.g. couple, each do some work from home so want a space + a guest room. Or one/both having occasional children, each having their own room for when they stay. Running a business from home you might want a stock room (e.g. ebay trader). Small business, e.g. beautician or massage or something might want a room for that.

Houses are for lives, not children :)

The latest Matt cartoon (for 10th March) did make me laugh:

I've got a degree in bacteria stuff so actually I am the most qualified person to answer your question. Errr.. well apart from the other people with similar degrees and actual work experience...

If the rice has been stored in a cool dry place it will be fine. If it has gotten damp then definitely don't eat it. Rice tends to contain a certain type of bacterial spores and they can 'germinate' if they get moist and produce horrible toxins which are not destroyed in cooking (which is also why you shouldn't eat leftover rice which has been left out at room temperature).

And on top of this, in the Khalvashi household/workplace, if it's not been in the sink, it's safe :)
