    Hahahaha, tres amusant gen.

It's grimly dark. I think I am going to have to light the woodburner within the next hour.

Dh is short listed for a job he would quite like. Some of those vibes that saw nikkster and chewy do well recently would be nice, though he says he is pleased enough to be on the short list for it I know he would like the offer too.

Congrats to fir on the shortlisting, and fingers and toes are crossed for an offer x

Just had a browse of the rest of the site, and despite knowing I really should, I just find it hard to get excited about saving 10p on a tin of beans or whatever.

I'd be well up for putting in the time and effort to save a few hundred quid on a luxury item, but there's usually little attention paid to those categories.

Maybe the site needs a "posh money saving" board? :)

Agreed, but one man's tin of beans is another's flight to Oz.

There is the Mars Bar* test, if the saving is not more than the price of a Mars Bar* it is not worth the hassle.

*Replace Mars Bar with costa coffee/box of chocolates/bunch of flowers/silver bracelet/ handbag/.....mercedes car etc

We had our loft insulation done under some scheme, I think we paid £200. I thought there were now government grants to make it free for all.

Same here. And quirkly I have double jointed toes and can cross some of them. One (big) and three can both sit on top of two.

I always think it depends on how you feel about your job. If you don't mind it then saving isn't so important, if you resent every minute then wasting a single penny of hard earned seems a major negative.
    I think....

For various reasons we do not want to use one of the schemes, because there is no self install one.

Primarily, the animals have been EXTREMELY patient this summer, all of them have had disruption and less input, less freedom. The loft hatch is in our bedroom and that is the cats last reserve of ' space' where no one goes. They have had enough really.

Plus, we are allowed to install insulation our selves, but if we have a scheme we have to get a bat licence.

Plus, the scheme has an allowance of space it covers, Comparing the extra meter age ours would still be quite expensive to do, under the schemes (which I think have ended) our metrage per bedroom was vastly too much to significantly reduce costs.

    ...

If it's additional new build work and the rules from last year still apply, then I contacted my local build centre supplier and got them to deliver 10 rolls of EarthWool insulation + free gloves + goggles + mask for £30.

Sadly, the gloves aren't for Sunday best, but what do you expect for £3 a roll? :rotfl:

It's not, it's in the existing roof space. We haven't bothered to insulate before because we haven't had heating to worry about wasting :D

This year, with heating and insulation I think you should expect a merry and toasty lir to be posting.

I am annoyed, I forgot it was a shrub auction at the local cattle market today. :(

I bought a teeny tiny dog bed (well, compared to what I am used to) for curlydog today. I am hoping it's gets to smell of the other dogs and us so that he starts to associated us with restfulness.

Big dog always wants the smaller bed of dog dog though, and I have a horrid idea she might squash this bed trying to sit in it. I suppose she could use it as a pillow.
