We had our loft insulation done under some scheme, I think we paid £200. I thought there were now government grants to make it free for all.

That would have been nice :( But we paid for ours and now we're getting someone in to raise the joists so we can have it as a useable space and have the maximum insulation.

We have to get everything out of there in 3 weeks. Nightmare :(

And good vibes to fir for his job. I'm very cranky at mine at the moment.

Urgh, we have the joist issue to come. We have decided not to raise joists over the bits we plan to develop in the future, for obvious reasons, so we will have crawl boards I guess, :o

    I

In fact ATM, michaels would have apoplexy at everything financial of ours. We need a real financial overhaul and I am just too daunted to face it. I think it will terrify me. We have lived very cheaply in our time, but well, now we seem to live less well and very, very expensively!

That is us atm. We are spending too much. Not getting into trouble but a bit wasteful.

I think we may now have run out of energy saving measures, super efficient boiler, all windows dg low energy or led bulbs throughout etc. To save any more we would have to stop leaving everything on twenty four seven or start living below 22 degrees day and night!

Oh, you could get one of these remote intelligent heating controllers, and perhaps zonal heating.

I'm not sure I'd recommend it. I keep looking at the web page showing how the temperature graph for the day overshoots the target temperature slightly. Then I'm tweaking it whilst the rest of the family sit in the lounge shivering.

Slave to technology? I'll say. :rotfl:

I think we are all frugal in different areas. I have a friend who is a whizz at maximising airmiles and flight deals. linking credit cards for companion vouchers and creating household accounts to merge miles etc then she tells me she has never changed her utility suppliers ever.

Another friend maxes out on coupons for supermarket shopping and clubcard points and online codes but had never heard of quidco/ TCB.

Yep; I started being interested when I had to survive on an education salary in London. Helped me to find a good mortgage and cheap renewable bills (utilities, car insurance, house insurance, etc.).

We still make non-frugal faux-pas. We've bought at least two cars new which had me gritting my teeth. Last car was satisfyingly second-hand. DS's private school is financially crippling and I wouldn't hesitate to receive state support for paying for that except for the fact we just ran out of energy to get him statemented and took the cost on ourselves.

Problem now is I can't make major savings. Last phone was a bargain. Getting woopsies in my local waitrose is as good as it gets. Subscribed to freecycle which I only heard about from a mate who never heard of this site!

Find this site more useful for discussions now than useful tips but still helpful for the wallet.

How long is it taking you to complete this 10 mile journey in normal traffic?
    23-30 minutes.
Today I did the "new journey" in both directions; it's a dream.... and 5+ miles is literally following the beach/coastline, right along the cliff road :)
It's just taken me 21 minutes to get home with no traffic on the roads.

Well, I survived the week ..... and got invited to a colleague's house for coffee. Hence my very late arrival. I'll probably be going out/round there again as the colleague's older/single too and fairly newly arrived.
