LIR, your Landrover, was it ever in the army?

Apparently, some MOD landrovers have a 24v electrical system. Connecting that to a normal car would definitely make it sizzle. I have no idea why the MOD would specify a non-standard electrical system, but assuming they do that sort of thing on everything they buy it starts to explain where the defence budget goes.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I think you need to tell us what job you do .... sounds very lucrative. Just your additional borrowing would be more than I'd ever borrowed in my whole life.... and, if I were to be buying now - and even in a job - I doubt I could raise £50k mortgage.... certainly unlikely to be able to afford to pay that much back.

The money leeches out of MOD......in ways that would make all sane people fume if they heard it all. While some leave the army ill prepared for life others milk a system seemingly designed to be a dairy cow for them. It's been interesting to see where this discussion in the Tory party will glover defence spending. There is no argument from here that some get a very rough deal and shouldn't be squeezed more, whereas others.....hmm.

Anyway, lr GDB......as I say, what you get inside a land rover is very rarely what is in a land rover handbook. If I remember to check what's in the one ATM I'll report back.

ATM we are talking about another defender. We're going to book in a test drive on a new one to see if driving a new brick to London for the evening is more feasible than driving an old one the same journey regularly. My series three and I used to do a daily commute of over a hundred miles each way, for about four/five months I think. I remember being dog tired the whole time...

I know, but being a NP I couldn't just ignore anyone who PMs me even though she probably sees keeping the conversation going as a sign that I am interested.

pfft... I should have stuck with Rule 1.

I don't know what Evernote is.

We painted a (IMO) ugly piece of furniture dh inherited with plans to put it in the bathroom when it's done this year. But now we think its too big so we are rearranging our room to put in in their because we both quite like it now.
Evernote is an online storage system but it's not a patch on Dropbox and Mediafire. These are like virtual memory sticks that you can install on your phones/desktops/laptops and store files for a short or long time. Dropbox gives 2Gb for free and runs on everything, even my 12-year old mac system.

It's a piece of cake to use. :D

Mediafire Express's more restricted re: devices and not for dumping stufff for ages but gives 50Gb free. It's services like this that make me feel less of a luddite and make life run smoother.

Thus endeth the advert for free online storage systems.:A

As regards car batteries I once owned an Italian car that was also manufactured by a Russian company and their manual apparently had such delights as thow to start it at -30 including switching on the headlamps to thaw out the battery:eek:

I hate bank staff, basically. I can't stand their annoying sales tactics, I'd rather pay someone some money to avoid having to deal with them. Plus when they find out what my job is it all gets a bit awkward.

Also, we might need to borrow as much as we possibly can so would be useful to get the broker's view of how much particular lenders are likely to lend us, without having to speak to them all individually.

The banks used to do discounted mortgages for their staff and don't the BoE offer something similar?
    I think....

This is the exact point; there's little point to it.

Forgive me if I'm wrong Pastures, aren't you in a relatively cheap part of the country?

One bedroom rate up here is £126 a week, but going into certain parts of London can be moving on for £200 a week:eek:. This is the equivalent to 2.5 days a week, without the person in question having to lift a finger.

    :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

The best way to have it would be to implement a similar system, which as far as I can see, would give more of an incentive to work (say, 20 hours at NMW total).

Many employers down these parts will give a minimum of £18kp/a (which is our starting point) to someone with a years experience on a basic level, meaning that to stay down these parts, there's huge incentive to work.

I can't see it happening for the forseeable, though.

In other news, I've ordered my new car today, and I get it on September 1st :)

    CK

My housing benefit is just over £100 a week (soon to be £110) for a 3 bedroom house.

LHA rates (private rental) for my area are as follows

    Shared rate £57.50
    1 bed rate £89.93
    2 bed rate £109.62
    3 bed rate £126.92
    4 bed rate £167.31
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
