I'm quicker than 99% of the UK, or something
I thought the exemption on duty was for personal consumption? Bit of a risk selling the stuff at your bar, I'd have thought. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
it would be better if SB called and don't turn it into an issue of not having lifts, rather than health and safety from refuse not being collected.
If I had my jobsworth hat on, I'd point out that the health benefits of walking up 9 floors exceed the risk from rubbish building up.
Seriously, I'd be pestering them to know exactly what steps they are taking to fix the lift but I'd want them to be 100% satisfied with the repair before putting the lift back into service. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
The Halls of Residence where SB lives are quite expensive, to our family that is, so I wonder whether I should call somebody tomorrow and make a complaint. Mmm:(it would be better if SB called and don't turn it into an issue of not having lifts, rather than health and safety from refuse not being collected.
I agree with missk. SB is an adult, and she's the person who pays the rent, not you, Bertie. The complaint should come from her. Of course, as her dad, you can (and should) explain to her how to complain, and where to, and what to say. But encourage her to do it for herself, either on her own or maybe with some of the others who live there. Then she'll have learnt a useful lesson for life, and next time something in her life goes wrong, she'll know how to complain.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Agree completely with your conclusions I did point out a few moments ago in my reply that as she was thinking of going to the Gym to try and get fit, this would help her with fitness, but all I got in a Mobile text message was a Grr. nothing changes..;)
SB did say the that they have been waiting ages for a part to come from the manufacturers to fix it, I think that what does not help the matter is that there is only the one lift. The staff will not be too pleased either at patroling the floors to make sure that they behave themselves.
Lets hope that it gets fixed soon.:)0 -
Wow, things have changed, there certainly weren't staff patrolling halls of residence when I was a student to make sure we behaved...pretty lucky really.I think....0

Bit of a strange day today being car less (well actually we have 2 but one doesn't work at all and the other the mechanic has the key). Sometimes I think that being car less was the norm not that many years ago and wonder with rising fuel costs whether it will be again in the next few decades.
The DKs are being unusually healthy at the moment, perhaps because it has been half term and so no mixing with other germs carrying pickneys or possibly because we must have had everything out there over the last few months however it is being a huge struggle to get the homework done, coming from a bit of a geeky family it seems strange that they are more interested in anything else but studying and none of them are readers.I think....0 -

Maybe its because of the students past history that has brought this about, or because there is only one male in their block.:(
I never had that luxury of going to Uni' because back in 1960 I had to get a job in order to look after my Mum as Dad had passed on. No regrets though.0 -
Points gratefuly taken and have been passed on, its just a Dad probably over reacting. I agree it is all experience for her.:)
The thing is, I remember as a teenager hating the way my dad made me do things for myself (with his help and advice, but me doing it) but then when I was a young adult and he wasn't there to do things for me (in the days before email and mobile phones), I suddenly realised how grateful I was that he'd prepared me for independence. So I am determined to do the same for my kids (gradually of course), even though it comes much more naturally to me to want to fight their battles for them.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? 15k round Richmond park this morning into an arctic wind with horizontal sleet. my legs are like lead and calves like blocks of concrete.
Refuelled in the pub. Mate refuses to consider new Malden and his OH has vetoed fleet. Apparently we're moving to sheen instead. That's about 500 yards away so at least the moving costs would be low.0
