and this snippet of news, which explains a lot about australia lately.

Just to expand on this point:For example, there is no litter on the streets. Nowhere. And I am yet to see a central reservation where the grass is not well-tended and the attractive shrubs not perfectly pruned.
There are 2 things here. Firstly Aussies don't really drop litter except cigarette butts (for some reason, smokers exempt themselves from litter laws). Secondly at times when litter is dropped we get the cleaners out pronto.
On New Years Eve, loads of people go into Central Sydney and trash the place. By 7am on New Years Day the place is spotless again.0 -

Ah but it can also be a non posh alert.....I could have a band playing in my back garden for a party but the band would be free (well apart from being kept in constant supply of food as middle son has a band), the garden belongs to a HA house which would be unmortageable in the real world (prefab house) and the buffet would be done on a budget with a bring a bottle instruction for booze.
I could throw a big party for less than £100, not that I would though as youngest especially would not be able to cope with it.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Very interesting Generali ... at a long shot maybe the British connection may have stayed with them because as you well know British parents in my youth always took their litter home with them, well that is how I was brought up, I recall me dear od mother asking me what I have done with my litter when I returned home and many times the litter was still in my pocket, much to my mothers delight.0 -

Here is a posh alert. We are sitting in the lounge at the airport waiting for our flight home (flying economy on pay-tax-only avios flights, the lounge is courtesy of OH's gold card); this is a new lounge opened only a few weeks ago and BA only. We are alone in the lounge! Bar the staff of course. I'm guessing it is because either it is a Sunday and not many business travellers or because the other lounge was so bad that eligible people don't bother seeking it out. Very wierd to have an airport lounge to ourselves.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Oh congrats, Chewie. It's a truly life-changing experience.
Edit: Well, congrats in advance. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

I love the bit about the cashed up bogans. My cousin loves the word and throws it around liberally while neglecting to think that her daughter is the wealthiest in the whole family because she drives one of those trucks the size of factories at a big mine in Qld. It's quite funny, within the space of a few years she's gone from waiting tables while training, then dropping all of that to go work in a mine. She'll probably be a millionaire in no time.
Aussie bogans are quite amazing though. I don't think there's anything quite the same here. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Just received an email from my daughter SB, which is always very welcome, but we are disturbed to hear that the lift in the Halls where she lives has been out of order for a week now, SB is on ninth floor of the Halls and has to walk the stairs a few times a day.
Surely in the interest of safety this should be attended to, this lift has broken down quite a few times since she has been there.0 -
Same here. My DS got a cough and fever two weeks ago. The fever left but the cough's persistent. Spoke to a doctor about it. Post viral cough can last for up to 5 weeks before it needs more of a look into, apparantly, so he's going to have to put up with it for a good bit longer.
Different if the cough's "productive" IYKWIM especially if green's the colour.
Independently now DD's got it and she hasn't seen DS in ages.:(
The verdict is virus, so just wait for it to get better.chewmylegoff wrote: »No, not yet. OH has been off the pill since January though. Having said that she had been on it for nearly 20 years so don't expect anything to happen immediately.well, good luck and hope you don't have to wait as long as we are
Good luck to both of you, and I hope there's good news soon. I have to admit I hated the uncertainty of not knowing when or if it would happen. I do not deal well with uncertainty - I am too impatient.I didn't deal well with the uncertainty of house hunting or job applications either.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0
