Other than parents who continually move around, I can't think of a reason to send a child to boarding school.
I can, but they might not always mean boarding is best depending on family. E.g. Two very full on career parents might mean weekly boarding means more positive interaction time. If a parent has a health restriction or limit boarding can also provide a stable environment, and for some children being 'caught' in a care role is not suitable but unavoidable. It also might not relate to the parents but demands of other siblings. For very supportive functional families the impacts of these environments can be perhaps alien, and the benefit for SOME children difficult to imagine. But it is, Ime, very real.0 -

Along the same lines is residential schools.
We were being pressured into middle son going to a residential school when he was permanently excluded but I refused to allow it. My view was the message that was being sent to middle son was not good, that he was being rejected or that we were giving up on him and that it would do more harm emotionally than good.
I'm glad I stuck to it as things could have been so much different to what we have now if he had gone. Yes, it was hard work and yes, it did have a bit of an eek impact on the family in the short term but long term, I believe we have had a better outcome.
Mind you, I probably wouldn't have had the need for the wheelchair now if he had gone!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Do you think there's been a negative impact on other children in his school as a result?0 -

A friend of my mothers, now deceased ran a residential school for people with behavioural difficulties (closed on her death). I visited a few times because she lived on site and was always roping people in to visit the school and show normal behaviour around the kids (some of the kids had medical issues, some were no official reason for being 'difficult') and I have to say, it was a really positive environment. There was a really nice biker who did a lot for the school, I am not sure he was not an ex student. I think for some parents 'forced' down a residential route it's a terrible shame if other people's attitude towards the benefits for their children stop them going for it. Of course it's not the right route for everyone, but when it is its a crying shame when it isn't taken.
when I was at school and eating disorders were rife. I remember one girl I was quite close to whose parents fought tooth and nail to not have her admitted as they feared her feeling rejection too. What very few people realised was her mother had an eating disorder too, and my friend was coached on what to say in family therapy to not let indication of this slip, it caused my friend no end of stress. I saw a few years ago the sister was doing well (thank goodness) but looked much the same as her mother used too. I do wonder whether the intervention of time in a different setting might have benefitted her, and my friend. We will never know if her parents were right, because you cannot redo with the same circumstances.0 -

Not having the best day today. Had to go home via forest hill yesterday as Dw was visiting sil and car would not go in gear. Got it home but new clutch is the cheapest possible solution
Plus I am typing on tablet as PC won't boot. Don't know why perhaps need new motherboard?I think....0 -

Oh no - sorry to hear about your technological woes. I have no useful suggestions, once you've tried the good old switch it off and back on again. Or google the make/ model number and error code if you have one - there is usually someone out there who has asked the same question and had some pointers.
Yes, shopping day was Thursday. Had a lovely day outI went for straight Harrod's vouchers in the end, there is a nice range of unusual spirits in the basement so I might treat myself on a day when I'm not walking around until late at night. They also sell the favourite gin of a colleague who I think might end up reading my thesis (did that sound like I'm definitely going to have one? I'm trying to get my head back in gear!)
I saw the itunes vouchers and thought of you though as I think you mentioned them before?

This has been a week of keeping the Bungalow spick and span throughout, we have had a few viewings of the property so that is a good start, the viewings were conducted in a very professional manner by the staff of our chosen EA.
We have met all three members of staff and both my OH and I are very impressed with the knowledge that they imparted to the viewers, my OH and I sat quietly in the Conservatory reading our chosen material and to be in readiness to answer the many questions that were asked.
One question that was asked was 'what is the Broadband speed of your hub' and as luck would have it I had just checked the speed last week and I was able to say just over 15Mbs I believe (actually 15.3Mbp) but I did not want to appear to be a smarty pants:)
We are looking forward to meeting many more interested clients this next weeks and getting positive feedback.
One of the parties visiting today said that he was very impressed with how clean everything was looking, so he made our day.0 -
