The whole point of CVs and application forms is it gives a standard set of information, in a set layout.

The danger of people mining is that selectors start to choose based on lifestyles. If you're looking at the facebooks of two people and one's posting their horse and skiing holidays ... and the other's posting photos of them and their mates on the swings at the local recreation ground ... you'll start to form opinions which are in some cases elitest.

It's a recipe for disaster really on many levels as it's no longer a level playing field and you'd find yourself being judged on "how fun you seem to be on facebook", which isn't a desirable business trait in most roles I'd imagine.

It can go the other way. I read once that in the Netherlands employers looked down on people doing hazardous sports as they claimed more sick pay due to injuries. In which case posting pics of skiiing holidays would be a big no-no when applying for a job.

    I've been Money Tipped!
When I was growing up, the only thing I knew about boarding was that they did it in the St Trinians films - and they do it at Borstal :)

It depends on the child whether its 'a good thing ' or not. In my family school has been able to provide a calmer, more stable constant and suited some of well for those reasons. It's neither perfect for all nor always as callous and unloving as people from either stance on boarding usually portray.

If they looked on my Facebook, they would probably think I am the most boring person on the planet! It contains pics of my new niece (my sister in law tags me on each and every photo she puts up), pics and videos of middle son's band but mostly, over everything else, various requests for texters or links to where updates can be found.

No wild nights out, no posh holidays, nothing.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I don't think in the case of facebook people are necessarily looking for that - though I appreciate that some will - I think it's more that people shouldn't post pictures of themselves lying on a floor bladdered, or similarly damning evidence of their lifestyle outside work.

Sounds like a case of jealousy of countries with mountains to me;).

In the Netherlands though, my understanding is it is very difficult to sack people, particularly in larger companies, which could explain a retiscence to employ people participating in hazardous sports.

that's how I understood it as well. they werevery careful about who they appointed to key positions and they wanted to ensure staff wouldn't be breaking legs etc.

Actually in my most recent visit there I ended up in a restaurant at the top of a hill, which was the first bit of high land I'd ever seen there. Mind you it was in Maastricht which is surrounded by Belgium which had some hilly parts.

Really weird border area - you just skip from country to country with ease and a lovely little multi-lingual corner of Europe. It's trying to set itself up as an overseas university centre for Brits as other threads here have covered.

Other than parents who continually move around, I can't think of a reason to send a child to boarding school.

    posh alert!!!!!

I don't think a sea view automatically qualifies as a posh alert.

Though I accept that having a second home probably does.:o

Having a sea view where the water's so close you could flick your fag ends into it without trouble .... is a posh alert :) I could only get that close if there were free on road parking and a parking space :)

And, yes, 2nd home is ALWAYS a posh alert ... by default.

We need to cross the road to get to the sea, so the fag end comment is a slight exaggeration, but I get your point.

This is meant to pay its own running costs, we deliberately chose somewhere that should be attractive as a holiday let. To be ahead of the game that meant sea view and max bedrooms. Plus this block has an indoor, as well as outdoor, pool so we hope that will extend the season.
