I so get the idea of palliative care right now. In similar situation to th I think I understood it would be my 'choice' too.
It's just a word ... and means no different to care... except it means they know you'll be dying instead of getting over it ... so the only difference it would make is "where". I went through all this with the deceased... and as it was so fast-moving there was no time for research, consideration, choice... you act on "now".

It's easier to be unlucky than lucky and there's no time to think "oh, this is bad... let's change it" because at that stage there's no time to change things and it's not possible.

We were lucky last time - and if it comes to it again now, we're going to be lucky again.

The "information age". It's a term thrown about but are we all aware just how much of an 'information trail' we leave nowadays?

I mention this because my current freelance boss is set to be replaced by a new freelance boss next week. The new arrival has already had his linkedin profile data mined, and his employment claims cross-matched with things like Companies House.

An old fashioned me suggests we should pause for breath and give someone a chance to prove themselves in person; but I have the feeling we are more likely to make snap judgements nowadays based on profiles.

Does this trend concern other NP members? Would you object to a future NHS mining your food purchasing habits at Tesco to validate your alcohol consumption claims? What if a commercial company makes a living out of profiling your Facebook page for potential recruiters of today or tomorrow?

    I have some misgivings.

It can also be pretty misleading.....no point cheering on the people who make 'aspiration' vegetable and fruit purchases but let it rot in a fruit bowl while they buy junk with cash. My supermarket shopping would reveal a very odd household. Spasmodic veg buying (I prefer green grocers) no meat, only skimmed milk .....but plenty of full cream milk gets drunk here. They might think we eat dog biscuits (my dogs have a junk food supermarket dog biscuit as part of their bed time routine).

My shopping habits would show: 12 cigs/day, loads of fizzy pop and cheap bread products (Lidl long life naans) .... also spuds, cheese, beans and eggs. Oh ... they'd also see all those chocolate and crisp purchases wouldn't they.

    :)

Tea tonight was: a long life naan, topped with a squirt of chilli ketchup and cheddar... accompanied by a can of fizzy pop.... and finished off with a cig :)

It's just a word [pallative care]... and means no different to care... except it means they know you'll be dying instead of getting over it ...

Pallative care emphasises quality over quantity. So no aggresive treatments that are quite likely to make you suffer in treatment, given in the hope that you will benefit in the long term. Instead treatment that is milder, less likely to have side effects, more emphasis on making the patient comfortable and pain free.

So it makes a big difference in care. Ideally the patient would be involved in the decision making, but where this is not possible their best interests should be accounted for with out them being actively involved in the decision making.

.. eww, gross. Seen this a couple of times on telly programmes. It's on one "Place in the Sun: Home or Away" that's oft-repeated.

Beware. Much of that website is most definitely NSFW. I can highly recommend their email as an antidote to the nice gossip mags.

We went house hunting today for a rental as the current place is bigger and more expensive than we need. We looked at this place which we're not going to take unfortunately. It's great fun! It would have been a suburban palace when it was built.

It's got a garage with a man den in the back and a potting shed too. Also a series of concrete veg growing beds. It's falling apart and when the house is made of fibro (a mix of concrete and asbestos) it's no good. I think we've found a place to move to. It's a little small but the garden is huge and I'm a great believer in getting the kids out and about.
