Pastures, I am so sorry to hear that things are being so difficult again. I just want to join the chorus of voices telling you to let sibling take the responsibility for this, although of course you'll want to be kept informed.

zag - so glad to hear about your car. I too have a garage like that. It's close to where I used to live, but I still drive over there to get my car dealt with because I trust the bloke. He's getting older now, but his sons work with him, so I'm hoping they'll carry it on even after he's retired, and be as trustworthy as he is.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Me too! Having read the account of the care and attention, given to the other 'old' in their last days and months, you went above and beyond what could be expected from a daughter. It's time for the sibling to take some responsibility.

Another typical example of medics spouting stuff at patients who have no idea what's actually being said + enough marbles to nod and seem as though they're with it... but they're not.

I have that experience with the two younger boys and medical staff/teaching staff. They will sit there and nod as if they understand and/or agree, the staff will think I have just made everything up and then when we get outside, the boys will be all confused about all that has just happened or I will ask why they said that and they will say "So I could get out of there/because I don't like to draw attention/didn't know what they were asking."

Had it as middle son's statement review, he was asked about the effect of them stopping him doing music rehearsal during form and instead of saying that it had impacted on his social skills (which he had written in very angry words on his form about), he agreed his making friends was still fine. When I asked him why, he said he didn't quite understand the question and thought she was asking something else and she had confused him!

Youngest will just say he is fine to every question........even when he quite clearly isn't, he doesn't like any attention at all and knows it is the quickest route to getting away from that attention.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    Nearly 90.

In which case the medics may not offer to do much in any case.

I had a grandparent who discovered a lump, diagnosed as C and everyone panicked. Slightly younger than your old. When we got to the specialist, they said not to worry too much, she will die with it rather than of it. Tumours spread very slowly in the very old.

It's started already. They're the wrong side of London from you (Streatham/Norbury) or I'd recommend them to you.

    Don't recommend them to me.

A Garage that thinks a part that isn't even fitted to your vehicle might need replacing are pretty incompetent, cheap but not to be trusted to know what they are doing

They based the warning on something missing from the service record. I'm happy they spotted that detail and when they went to the bother of investigating they didn't try to make work for the sake of it.

In our model the part needs replacing every 70,000 miles and it was well over that, and its an internal engine part not dealt with in routine servicing. It turns out that our engine had a more durable equivalent part that shouldn't need replacing and VW were switching from one part to the other at the time my model came out, so I wouldn't expect the garage to know until they opened it up.

On another trivial matter, I hadn't thought that PR was a major contributor to economic well-being of the country but I noticed in Private Eye that a major food company is probably regretting laying off their senior UK PR staff in a cost-cutting exercise now that supermarkets are jumping in front of cameras to excuse themselves and rebuild public confidence.

PN - I missed the post about what's going on, but I think I get the general idea. Thinking of you, and hope that things go as well as possible.

I so get the idea of palliative care right now. In similar situation to th I think I understood it would be my 'choice' too.
