Ooh - that is rather fantastic, isn't it?!

    :D

    Thanks!

It's going to be the hallway light. It's a pokey front hallway, as you know, and it's going to be taller, makeing it feel poker, so it's a good way, I hope, to make the pokey space seem not pokey and dark but rather intimate and opulent. The ordinary little star we have can go on the first floor landing, for a while at least, then we can get something smashing for the top when we go up there. I have seen some really beautiful lights in Glastonbury but I am still thinking about them. I might put them in the back hall way, another pokey space, which I want to make glowing with the fixtures.

Have you heard of the Man in Seat 61 lir? He is a legend in train travel in Europe and has mapped out how to get to most places by train. You can now take a new and much improved service from Paris to Milan or Venice, so perhaps you can get to Italy after all. How does this sound? Daytime Eurostar to Paris, overnight to Milan, onwards daytime journey on Italian trains if needed.

ETA: more scenic and high end options:

And if you fancy more eastwards travel you could check out this website

Some cheap deals for Germany. Be tempting to buy eurostar to Belgium and connections to say Berlin etc. if it takes your fancy. Actually I think Salzburg is on the DB network but have;nt checked if the current deal offers it.

My daughter won't fly; as she has a degree in Swedish with Finnish subsidiary and wants to work out there she is now an expert in train/ferry travel. Seat 61 website is amazing.
She's had a year in Turku (Finland) as part of her degree and is currently working in Helsinki for the year before she starts her masters degree. Last summer she went to the Faroe Islands and Iceland, all travel by train and ferry (you have to travel to Denmark first).
She would probably regard train travel to Italy/Spain etc. as so easy it's not worth bothering about.

    I am really impressed.

Mainly when I have travelled I have focused on the journey not being part of the experience but the thing that has to happen to get there.

I should also explain that I just don't travel well.....I was hoping to go to Newcastle early this year and haven't managed that! So it may all be a bit pie in the sky.

I am very awkward, I need to be able both to sit or lie with legs up, and to walks round, but not walk too far on bad days! Changes etc can be very difficult, especially after long sitting. Last flight back from Italy (0bviously very short haul!) I became very seriously swollen (feet and legs were just awful especially) and did call for medical advice...so I am being cautious. The last tng I want to do is spend two days travelling somewhere and be able to do nothing when I get there.

Hello everyone. I do believe this is my first post in this thread.

    Hello pawlala and welcome. :hello:

Everyone is welcome on the NPT (whether they are actually nice people or not), provided that they behave nicely while they're in here, so come in, pull up a chair, shelter from the cross-fire of the rest of the debate board and tell us whether you like mushrooms. :D

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

On our Valentine's meal I had the starter of mushroooms stuffed with (among other things), mushrooms.

Verdict...they should make things like that more often, and I would eat them.

I am failing as a wife again, I just cannot stand the idea of cooking and cannot think of anything I want to eat ATM. Dh has suggested takeway of all varieties, and is getting perturbed that I keep suggesting he have what he wants....He has even tried tempting me with breaking the dry spell here and waving bottles of wine by me, but n'ah.

Even when I don't feel like eating or am not eating I usually enjoy cooking. Everything makes me feel queasy or turned off food. Not that it will hurt me to do without for a while. Just wish I could get back my joy of cooking!
