Lir, next time you're at the library, see whether you can get the book:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Man-Seat-61-Worldwide/dp/0593059433/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1361022840&sr=8-2

Some of the info will now be out of date, so it is not worth buying when the website is so current, but it will open your mind to all kinds of possibilities.

You can go anywhere you want on holiday if you plan it properly: Europe by train, America by ship... OK, further afield than that could be a bit troublesome, but you do have options. As a kid I'd been round the world by the age of 9, but didn't get on my first plane (having interrailed round Western Europe) until I was 20. As my parents say, you just need to see the travelling as part of the adventure rather than an obstacle in getting to a place.

The trains in Spain now are fantastic and really fast. When I first went there by train they stopped for sheep crossing the line. Now they have the train hotel service from Paris which is really smart and new (It's called Elipsos) . You can get the ferry to Tangiers from southern Spain, but I can't remember what port it leaves from. It is somewhere near Gibraltar.

I am a nice person, I promise, however I can admittedly be very difficult in the office, which is why I've taken to not employing friends/NP/anyone I know, really :)

I have a vacancy in my office but it is part time.

I am amazingly easy to work for, I have really low standards and I regard anyone as half way competent such a bonus I am likely to nail their feet to the floor.

If you are difficult at work then you are living in lala land imagining you are darling elsewhere.

It's Algercias. When I went to Morocco in the late 80's, I flew to Gibralter, walked across the boarder to Spain. I then took the short bus journey to Algercias, the boat to Tangier, and the overnight train to Marrakech, arriving there the next day!

I have been nowhere other than a few package holidays. I really need to give myself a shake, I tell myself I kicking over the traces of my heritage and yet here I sit. I am like the pi key bride who imagined she was blazing a new path by getting married in a little dress when she should have being running screaming from the church

I think sole travel is a nightmare, more than an enjoyment. Nobody to chat to, nobody looking after you, nobody to go to places with, nobody to remember with. Oh yes, some people will tell you "if you travel alone people will talk to you" - the reality is that either they don't..... or the ones that attach themselves to you are such an awful nightmre you'd wish they hadn't.
