Aunty Viva sounds like every little chaps dream aunt. A potential provider of a drum kit. Just for the hell of it.

Auntie Viva has been spending too much time in the US ;) Still, I'd like to have had an Auntie Viva too :)

Can only be a good thing in my books. Slight inconvinience to the dog owners for the greater good of dogs and all, as long as it's enforced.

That seems a good plan, LIR. There's going to be a by-election shortly. Why don't you stand?

Amongst my kids generation it is a complete non-issue. My parents in-laws have a problem with it and my grandparents (now long gone) weren't convinced that gays really existed.

Just shows the tidal change and the sooner it's dealt with the better.

My opinion. I haven't got one or even thought about it.

Was a bit annoyed with BBC Breakfast who just wanted to turn it into a political party split issue

In theory the law change sounds a good idea, but the type of people who are irresponsible with dogs are probably the same ones who won't give a flying fig about it.

As long as it's run properly and the Police are able and willing to enforce it then it's gotta be a good thing.

That is the big question, of course.

How does the dog chip thingy work? Does it have the owner's name and address on? What happens if you move? Do you send the dog in for reprogramming? :)

Stand? I cannot even sit up ATM.:D

I was REALLY feeling better this morning, got up did animals with gusto, then came in and got my slap on ready to go out and run some errands......then while getting dressed started to vomit. All my muscles are saying ' no, no, no ' to moving but I don't feel sick any more.

I just want to be well.

You pay a fee and get details updated. It's very simple.

Re microchipping. Saw an article this morning saying that (I think the numbers are right) 110,000 dogs are found every year. Of these only half find their way back to their owners and something like 6000 are put down as they can't find space in pounds, or for other reasons. Microchipping is seen as the way to cut down the 55,000 whose owners can't be found.

However AIUI, and lir's post sort of reinforces this, there is no standard in chipping or where to put the chip. So you can have a chipped dog found but the scanner looks in the wrong place or for the wrong type of chip. I'd like to find out more about this.

In theory the law change sounds a good idea, but the type of people who are irresponsible with dogs are probably the same ones who won't give a flying fig about it.

Chipping normally goes in the scruff. There is some potential for movement. You just waft over the entire animal with the scanner a few times to make sure.

One of my cats I can clearly feel her chip, the other animals not at all.

There is also known incidence of chip failure. This is the scariest bit ATM, for passports. In this situation your paperwork could show you had it chipped and have done what you can. I guess.

100% agree with this. I know I sound like an old fogey but the BBC is 'institutionally left wing' and these things are self reinforcing and of course 'group think' does set in.

Surely the main issue is that the vote was passed and the secondary issue is what this means for the Tory party not the other way around? I thought it ws a free 'conscious' vote not a party whipped vote and indeed somelabour and lib dems MPS opposed/abstained.
    I think....

Are the details on the dog's chip? Or are the details held on a computer database, with the chip just having an ID number on?

Edit: I really should have googled this in the first place - online database, and the chip just has an ID.

Lainston House - how odd, I'm just about to book it to take some customers out ( really it's for my benefit and not theirs, ahem). And yes, it's still very nice and because it's a long way from where I live, I HAVE to stay there.;)

Dog chipping - the chip AIUI, holds a reference number and you contact petlog that hold the details for the owner. If you move, you need to update your details with petlog. As part of our annual check up they always scan the chip to make sure that it's still functioning as it should.

A civil partnership does not offer all the legal and financial options that marriage does. If you fall ill abroad, under a civil partnrship you don't ahve the rights that a married couple do and from a financial perspective, you don't have access to your 'spouse's' pension.
