I dated one who was a very proficient liar. The only time I realised was when he stole money from me. Doh! We're better off without Nikks, way better off! We should just be thankful we did not get more invested and didn't end up in deep and with kids.

My main mistake was that I willingly gave money to bail (almost literally) out. I think I felt that that was the only tangible thing I could do to help. I was pretty much an emotional wreck, and also at the end of my tether in terms of having to deal with untruths so couldn't provide much (/enough) in emotional support. I can be a real b!tch at times (and these were not good times), so I threw money at the problem to try and solve it.

Although I do wish I was like so many people my age with a partner/ house/ children etc it can not be underestimated just how much I am enjoying just being me again :) and how pleased I am that like you say I wasn't in so deep to make it even more difficult to leave.

Now I feel bad I didn't follow through in the summer/autumn with this.

I'd forgotten about that when I wrote that post :o

Firstly, you had plenty enough to be going on with over the summer/ autumn my dear.

Secondly, you can't fight every battle. I'm sure there are plenty of liars who just stick to the harmless stuff.

Nikkster - as a mum I could worry about my 'single' daughter, however since 'knowing' you I have had my eyes opened to valuing her and her 'status' in her own right. I have conciously moved away from 'hoping' her life would fall into some conventional coupledom. I know she is fine, and that it is not my right to ask intrusive questions.

I see you as a role model. I am learning from you how to treat my own adult child.

Have any NP anything to add?

The following story is completely true. ;)

My darling wife was driving round the Hangar Lane gyratory system during the rush hour, when she realised that she had overshot her turning. So she jammed on the brakes and started to reverse. Unsurprisingly, somebody drove into the back of her car, and as luck would have it a police car arrived just about a minute later.

The policeman spoke to the driver of the car behind, and then he spoke to my wife : "It is all right for you to drive on, madam, as there is little damage, and the driver behind you is completely mad. He claims that you were reversing round the Hangar Lane gyratory system in the rush hour."
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

You know I'm single/female too ... I've made it this far without too much mishap. :)
