She's in some induction meeting about health and safety at the moment.
Earlier today, it was more interesting when it was explained where the loo is, how the coffee machine works and where you can go for a fag break.
Then she had her photo taken for an entry pass.

    Or something like that :)

Looking forward to read her report on the first day at work (if she has the energy to come online :))
Induction tick sheet..... 5 minutes tops.
Loo - nobody said, but I'd spotted it.
Coffee machine = kettle... but nobody said I had to bring my own mug/coffee, so using an "anybody's" mug and colleague let me have her coffee, cue dash to shops in the 30 minute lunch break and only just got back in time.
    No cigs :( Nobody smokes....
    No entry passes, no photos.

    Total staff = 20 tops.

Tiny, overcrowded space, we've not even got an office, just cramped into the space at the bottom of the stair, with everybody coming through for the loo/coffee/everything.

Journey home not too bad .... home by 18:15. Chips now in oven, pie lined up .... and mushy peas will be nuked at the last minute. Should be eating by 7pm.... washing up and cleared away and settled by 7.30pm.

Hope it all went well, PN. By now you'll know the fire exits and handed your car details to the gate attendancts. And if it was Richer Sounds, (bet you it isn't) you'd have been given a brochure of the boss's holiday home you're entitled to use as a perk.
    No gates.
    Not RS.
    :)
    No perks.

I am going to that committee meeting I mentioned a few weeks ago. Parent says I have done my utmost to look unelectable. Way to boost my confidence.

(fwiw silvercar, my hair washed last night was dry, but then I went out in the rain twice, so now it's a little frizzed, but not horrifically so. It's proof the curls are natural, right? :).

At least I will get to go out, have an expensive glass of water and....well, that's it really. :)

What about the actual j-o-b PN - will you be able to stick it?

Not sure .... I'd like to walk now :)

Not a great environment, everything's random and unstructured and the stuff I've been doing today isn't in my skillset and probably never will be .... so we'll have to see, once I start doing the stuff I am good at. :)

Can't really tell for a few months can you. You can tell if you'll love it ... but the other option is harder to work out and takes time to see/settle.

Like PN I started a new assignment last Thursday. Everything feels new for a while.

The work colleagues all seem nice, which is such an important aspect. It might take a while before I ruffle a few feathers ;)

Good luck with the first week PN. One day / one week / one month ; all mini milestones :D

Pastures I think you're in a similar boat to me now. The library job does not pay well, but I use it to earn enough money to work on my business. I compartmentalise my time between library, other work, leisure and stuff around the house. Generally it works out fine.

I had to make the library job work for me. It isn't high powered, but it is an enabler to my other stuff. Also, because it doesn't particularly tax my brain now I'm trained up and can do everything, even when I get home my brain is fresh to do "me" stuff. I'd rather be spending more time on my other work, but in the current economy it just isn't possible. Having said that, even if it was possible, I wouldn't give it up and put all my eggs in one basket, I'd just scale back my hours a bit.

The great thing about small and unstructured companies is that they generally need a bit of structure and are respectful of people who can do stuff, just as long as they don't roll in on day one and try and change things (I've seen that before:eek:). Give it time, I'm sure you'll do fine. If nothing else, at least it'll stop your house stash eroding.

Oooh, how exciting! So many NPs with new jobs at the moment. We need to know more now you've let that little snippet slip kabayiri. Incidentally, I've always wondered how you got your username. I think you may have mentioned this in passing before, but I have a memory like Dory.
