Val D'Isere brings back memories for me I must say as I used to take British tourists there by coach leaving from many parts of Britain, that was during the late 1970s and that was a hard slog in those days.
During our stay we could not take part on the slopes for fear of breaking a leg or something similar so we settled for second best, the supermarket and a case of wine. We would finish all the wine at least 48hrs before our departure for obvious reasons.;)
Hope that Generali and others get through the next few days in safety. All the best to you.0 -
First time in absoltuely ages, probably almost a year, that I have not only got up and got stuff finished on time in the morning but am now dressed and made up in 'real' clothes, including an actual dress. And a pair of tights.....seriously, cannot remember when i last wore tights. Not a clean pair of warm fleece pjs, or something similarly warm and relaxed but not very ' me'. My clothes clash and I look like I got dressed in the dark, which is fine, I can live very happily with that, I am living like a civilised if colour blind human.0

Me too.
I was thinking that it was the first year I remember there had been no huge disaster around Christmas/new year. But the way we approach this sort of news from austrailia seems somehow different, less urgent. Which is odd, as it's so naturally connected culturally.0 -

Bertie are you wearing a green skirt with purple tights too? I have partnered a peach chunky knit shrug and a black top with this.
To add the tone mad lady tone I am wearing sheepskin lined ankle boots with tassles on them.
Dh just said it looks like something from fashion editorial....but he loves me and wears a sheep suit and a doge outfit as leisure wear.
I have suggested he does NOT wear the shellsuit first day back to old office...he thought it woul
D get his colleagues laughing if he dressed as a lamb to the slaughter...0 -

I have never gone to those extremes but I would certainly get the look from Sarah Beth if I did.:D0 -

I hope not to see you on TV Gen. At the moment the focus here is on the evac in Bundaberg. I guess the economy there is going to get slammed. They won't have been able to harvest their crops before this came through:(. In Hervey Bay they are trying to repatriate the animals that have been washed downstream, with their owners. I can't imagine what it must be like to find a bewildered miniature pony or cow in my garden. Poor things must be so scared. I wouldn't have a chuffing clue what to do. All I'd be able to do is post here and hope lir was awake! I guess this is just another strange service that the QPD have to offer.
Yes, Bundaberg seems to have had the brunt of it with a couple of people dead and a lot of property damage or at least that's where most of the reports are coming from. You never know if they're the ones with the most problems or just the most journalists.
Weather like this has a rather unfortunate habit of flushing out the snakes that normally live in the bushes or under buildings. I'd rather find a cow in my back yard than a couple of brown snakes or death adders!!! Generally, farm animals are pretty chilled out beasts IME as they've been bred to be calm. Whether one that's been swept 20 miles downstream would be so relaxed is a different matter.
I really feel for the people living up there, it must be terrible. I suspect that all Queenslanders are going to have to live like North Queenslanders have for generations: in a house right up on stilts, accepting the fact that you'll get flooded occasionally in the summer. I was chatting to my FiL who was brought up in rural North QLD and to him it was just the way things are up there.0 -

Cheers BertieUK. I don't think that Sydney will be hit too hard. There'll be a few trees down and the odd squished car but I can't imagine that things will be bad. It helps that it's coming through at night when there's little traffic etc. I plan to be asleep long before it arrives.lostinrates wrote: »Me too.

Aussies treat this more calmly than Europeans I think. They (we) accept that this stuff is going to happen; it's the price of living in paradise.
A side effect of the winds is foam being driven onto the land. Here is an example (SFW):
