Very nice. I stayed in Tignes, which is next door. Almost exactly 40 years ago! :)

I skiied over that way a lot, it was nicer over there I think, I'm too much of a big girl's blouse to come down the difficult runs into val d village. I prefer going in a straight line down a blue or red to actually having to turn.

I worked there in mumble mumble mumble mumble. Did I tell you I used to be a Chalet Girl although in Val I worked in the supermarket and as a cleaner. I was also in the biggest avalanche I have ever been in that season...

I have never worked as a chalet girl, cleaner, in a supermarket or been in an avalanche. I reckon in order of preference, 1 being the things I would prefer to do them most I would rank them:

    1) avalanche
    2) supermarket
    3) cleaner
    4) chalet girl

Being a chalet girl looks like it really sucks, although I am judging on the basis of how much sleep I need.

Hardest job I ever had was working in a supermarket unloading crates from lorries. Nothing on a building site was even close in terms of sheer hard slog.

My mate worked in an Italian ski resort and got an extra job as an English news announcer for a local tv station. Italy had about 300 stations at the same time we were increasing to 3. He loved every minute of it. :D

Storm update: the high water is going down the Mary River now. It's going through Gympie about now and should be in the ocean by tomorrow.

What remains of the cyclone is heading our way. It's already chucking it down and the forecast is for 6" rain and 100-150kmh winds tonight.

    Good luck Gen. Stay safe.

Have just had email from family. They are fine. Hervey Bay is going to take a lot of putting back together and they say it is the worst storm they've ever experienced. Maryborough expecting higher surge than in the flooding a year or so ago. Uncle will be safe, but it is the CBD that is where the bend in the river is, so not good for the local economy, or some housing.

ETA: this is the road from my cousin's house to my uncle's:

My kids and I call that "plate of things".

My daughter has 'little selection'. A hangover from 'tea time' when she was small. It is a specific menu though. She will shop for it when she plans not to eat whatever we are having for dinner.

Dips & veg, crisps. Sandwich, cheese/sausage roll , fruit, small cake.

Oops. Now it's the road down to the lake!

We'll be fine here. The only possible problems could be if one of the trees comes down on top of the house, there's not a lot we can do about that, or if I'm stupid enough to go out for a walk during the storm which luckily I'm not. Phew!

We've got 2 rivers at the bottom of the street, one of which becomes Sydney Harbour, so the water should just run straight down into there. The water level is far enough below our house that it's highly unlikely to back up to here. I think we're about 20-30m above the water level. If we get flooded it will definitely be on the news in the UK! If you see a very angry man with 2 small kids and an impossibly glamorous and beautiful wife whose house got just flooded in Sydney on your TV then that's probably me.

There's a guy on Sky News broadcasting from Sydney this morning. I'd say from the pics it is somewhere near Mrs Macquaries Chair, though it could be the next headland along. I have to say, I've seen much nicer weather there!

I hope not to see you on TV Gen. At the moment the focus here is on the evac in Bundaberg. I guess the economy there is going to get slammed. They won't have been able to harvest their crops before this came through:(. In Hervey Bay they are trying to repatriate the animals that have been washed downstream, with their owners. I can't imagine what it must be like to find a bewildered miniature pony or cow in my garden. Poor things must be so scared. I wouldn't have a chuffing clue what to do. All I'd be able to do is post here and hope lir was awake! I guess this is just another strange service that the QPD have to offer.

Certainly in the drinking dept. My legs coped with it fine, but that's the third time in 6 months that my back has gone. I probably need to start doing pilates or something.

Love Pilates, it's actually much more of a workout than you realise ;) and if you get a mat-based one, lots of lying down having a rest.

Cousin has just sent me aerial view of M'borough. AIUI this is before the surge comes downstream.
