Don't mind the age and the tax. overall running cost is a factor for me.

I drive 22 miles each day with very rare trips of longer distances. :) just wondered if it was a ripoff price.

it did get regular servicing so not very worried about condition.

It's probably fine for a run around. As you're buying from a Garage, they're probably making four or five hundred profit. See if you can get them to include a years Tax.

I'm afraid I'm not expert, as I change my Car once it's 7 or 8 years old.

Sounds like you should be looking for a Japanese car.

    Reliability and economical.

    Honda, Toyota or Nissan.

Another option is the deisel clio which does very high MPG. Not sure if they are as reliable but would be on par with the Ford on reliability i'd expect.

Second shout for a japanese car. Can recommend Toyota, Nissan. Never a bad word to say about them! If deisel was available I'd grab it.

We run a Mazda 2 - 5-door on a 04 plate and she gives at least 50mpg and Road Tax is £90.00

We love the room that it gives and is a very nippy car indeed.;)

There isn't anything in that price range around here :)

I will scour again but as not an expert and also, would be buying from a dealer as not really on par for course as such.

I can do duel with most things but this is one part of my life where it's a bit of a cop out :o

edit: also, the nissan micra's are known for rust problems and i wouldn't be buying anything that wouldn't be able to avoid that...

Auto trader and Ebay are the best options for that price.

If you go to autotrader, select the model, max price (you can usually knock them down) then maybe try cutting the milage then look at the newest or best.

There seems to be many available for the Focus price and age.

If there is nothing in your area then at least you are armed with the going price which is a good bargaining tool.

It's not always the nicest thing to sort out if it's not your thing.

@Vivatifosi - Ok so I had a look. IIRC your family is in the Gympie area. Channel Nine are talking about a fall of perhaps 200mm on Brisbane so my guess is that 500mm is a worst case rather than a prediction.

Also, the ground won't be sodden up there at the moment as it was a couple of years back. The water will go through areas rather than causing sustained flooding which should mean that the emergency services won't be as stretched as last time.

This is a link to the BoM radar for Gympie:

    http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDR081.loop.shtml#skip

actually is a composite of several radar stations so it shows 512km around Gympie. As you can see, at present there isn't much in the way of rain there to speak of as the cyclone is still further north.

Let me know if you want me to delete the post.

For the Nice Peeps that are interested, here is how those in the north of QLD deal with flooding:

Very many thanks Gen. Really appreciate this. They aren't in Gympie - about an hour further north - Maryborough and Hervey Bay. However through your link I was able to get specific info for the area which they are in: Wide Bay.

    So that was really helpful.

The people in charge have already abandoned Fraser Island and brought everyone over to the mainland. I'm sure they will be ok. My cousin's place is more at risk because it is very flat and at risk one way from run-off and the other way from coastal surges that cause inland flooding. My uncle lives up a hill from the Mary River, in a Queenslander which stands him in good stead in situations like this. My cousin's house is different, I can only describe it as being on something like a high cinder block plinth.

Only problem is that the road closes between her and him, and as my cousin is a nurse in A&E and her husband a paramedic, they have to stay on the Fraser Coast to deal with emergencies there. They had 86mm yesterday in the run up to this, not much would be very good!

DH had a Y reg Yaris from new (though his was a T-Sport so way faster) and S-i-L had an 03 one, same as one you are looking at. Very reliable, but S-i-L said you do notice the Yaris 1.0 being underpowered. Good little run around though. It is still going, she sold it to a neighbour whose daughter is away and it comes home to visit and still runs great. DH had nothing serious with his, but sold about 6 years ago. Check for rust and warping to disc brakes is his view...

Going to go back through the thread in a minute...been an eek few days as youngest's asthma has really gone downhill and we were a whisker away from going to the hospital yesterday as he had 3 asthma attacks in a 5 hour period of time but he settled enough to stay home in the end...the asthma watch and sleepless nights go on however!

We also had his statement review this week and I made my feelings very well known and the upshot of it is that they employed extra teaching assistants the same day to start immediately instead of in a months time.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
