My last car was a V Reg Yaris - I had it from new I think it had done 160,000 when I changed it last May. It was BRILLIANT. It ran on fresh air, almost always went through its MOT trouble free.

It cost about £45 to fill the tank last spring.

I had one significant breakdown and that was the Alternator. otherwise over its lifetime the exhaust manifold rusted and had to be replaced ditto the sump - Mr Spirit said that was quite unusual - I know nothing.

I sold it on ebay for £400. The bodywork was still very good and my reason for changing it was that it was sounding rougher and it did not owe me anything.

It was not speedy but it did not matter and coped well with my 56 miles daily return commute, rural roads, busy motorway and urban. It was comfortable with a neat dashboard.

When I put the seats down (they split) the back was like a small van.

By my experience I would consider it as there are many years of cheap motoring to be had from a Yaris with only 82000 miles on it. I think it is worth a look.

I'll second that. Got a Toyota Corolla so not as economical as the Yaris I'd imagine but acompletely reliable car. Does 1000 miles every time we go to Scotland and never gives a moments trouble.

Mind you if you leave it parked for a fortnight, drive it for a good spin as the battery doesn't keep its charge well. That's the only problem I can thinnk of.

We tend to buy big comfy German diesels a year or two old, and then run them into the ground. Mrs McT's current one is approaching 200k miles, has never broken down, but is now due for a change. Best balance for us between economy and comfort/reliability, but not right for everyone.

I'd second a Yaris or Corolla though. A branch of our family is Toyota mad and swears by them, never seems to have any problems.

I've run a Yaris, a Corolla, an Avalon and an Aurion. I would definitely recommend Toyotas.

The only reason I'd get something else would be if I was happy to spend extra on servicing etc. The thing with Toyotas is they are ridiculously cheap to keep on the road. They're not flash but they are very economical.

We've seen the pics remember? You looked gorgeous.

Ah, good lighting and excellent make up :rotfl: In real life, I look more frazzled than gorgeous.

Up this late as youngest just had another attack (settled now I hasten to add!) and now I am too keyed up/nervous to sleep.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Hun, everyone looks more frazzled than gorgeous without the lighting and excellent make up, even Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss. For whatever reason though, many men seem to prefer us without the warpaint. I only ever get hit on when not wearing my
make up and looking like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards, which I find somewhat disconcerting. People are always more self-critical than the public of them.

Hope you managed to get some sleep and youngest is ok.

I remember when I was on the road with groups of visitors from various countries taking them around the British Isles sometimes we would have to wait for certain ladies before we could begin our journey, I remember one lady who was running a little late and her hubby was pacing the ground outside and looking at his watch so I casually asked if everything was OK and he replied that his wife was glueing herself together and filling in the potholes. Well his comments certainly took away the other passengers annoyance at running late.

I notice through the years that when we had a fire-alarm during the night some of the passengers did not know each other without their makeup, such is life.

What I was going to say was my wife wears the minimal amount of make up that she can get away with and has, to my knowledge hardly ever worn lipstick in our almost forty years of marriage. So if she got made up I would probably not recobnise her. And she has never looked frazzled...;)

I think you need to put in a bit more effort in in the bedroom if that is really the case...

My head would settle for the Yaris, although my heart liked the nice red colour of the Fiesta. :)
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
