That's a posh alert... flying up/back in a day for a meeting. I was once working 400 miles from the office and my boss drove up in the morning for an 11am meeting, then drove back to the office that afternoon ... and when I worked there I was in the office 9-6, then I'd drive the 400 miles and be on site by 9am the next morning, then drive back home, arriving about 2am - keeping hotel stays to a minimum (hotels were cheap n greasy too)

OH and I often have discussions on whether you should be entitled to time off in lieu for travelling long distances.

    Ah bless him.

That is cute. It mostly needs to go to a fete. The sauce to the tombola. That is the final resting place of a fair number of freebies that come here in OH's luggage.

I think I have said in the past that my husband often receives small gifts from places he works with. We have had quite few books of aeriel photographs of 'facilities' (you have not lived until you have seen photo after photo of shipping containers from the air) , souvenir engraved crystal, Knitted socks in a meaningful Scandanavian pattern, lots of logo's or slogans promoting a place/event - T shirts, ties, towels, belts, Rugby shirts, sailing jackets - some high end brands ruined by being emblazoned with XXXXX City of Light/Prosperity...Gateway to the future/Cement Works .

Best (or worst) of all was a fairly enormous framed print of an aeriel view of a not very attractive former Eastern Bloc town. He cannot offload this stuff on the way to the airport as it would be rude so he had to pay to have it as extra luggage.

The lovely dark rum from the West Indies I claim as my own.

Sounds a decent collection. OH often comes home with started bottles of wine. He also gets given bottles of posh looking olive oil. (I guess grape farmers also grow olives.) He also has a pair of pyjamas with "first" detail from when he got upgraded once.
(Did I once say he works in the wine industry?)

Not posh but borne of experience. I limit my stays away from home on my own. I was away for work (staying at an unsually nice (for my employer )Hotel du Vin ) when I was ambulanced out in the middle of the night and diagnosed as requiring a heart bypass. Almost 10 years ago but I am still not keen on the idea of not making it down to breakfast and travelling in blue lighted vehicles whilst wearing hotel dressing gowns. My employer understands:).

Travel does count under working time regulations so your week should not exceed 48 hours (over a defined period) without signing an opt out. Mr S just tries to limit his travel to weekdays, although this trip took out last Sunday as he left at 7a.m.

During a major event he could work for several weeks without a day off. Last summer I travelled over to him so that it 'forced' a few days with some respite time into his itinery.

He rarely takes time back, if all work travel time/dinners/breakfasts/receptions were counted I suspect he works for minimum wage.

That sounds like the kind of job where every new acquaintance expresses admiration and envy.

I'm just about to set off for work  Walking in though. Not sure if that's better or worse.

Ahh, that's better: the cool change is coming through. I EAs in a half hour meeting and the temperature fell from 46C to 35C in about 25 mins! It was the hottest day in Sydney since a Pom started reading the temperature every day at Observatory Hill.

The proper cool change is due at 8pm when the temp will fall to the low 20s. The weather here does your head in!
