'Twas a lovely day here today, mid-20s and sunny. Not too humid. The temperature is going to slowly rise over the week until Friday when we'll have 35C and the cool change is due through on Friday afternoon.
I had my first day at New Job today. Nice offices, nice people and the work sounds fascinating. It's a good start.
Ah but how many days do you wake up to the magic of snow on the ground
(we'll ignore the 20 minutes delay on the trains for the time being)
Am I the only mean-spirited one who has to remind themselves to be pleased for Mr G's sucess rather than envious of it. (I know this is just me so please don't stop posting about it, I am really pleased for you and it is entirely my fault that I am not hapy with my lot which actually is perfectly fine).I think....0 -
I am not a lawyer, but I think that the loss has to be reasonably foreseeable. So, for example, missing an onward connection would be claimable, but being so traumatised that one is unable to use the coach service ever again isn't. It might be different if she put the taxi firm on notice that she is a frail old lady who cannot stand for long. And, of course, the inability to use the bus service is not very believable, is it? It's a big disappointment for her that she thought she had found a terrific wheeze, and the taxi firm messed it up. It's also intensely annoying being messed about like that and lied to.
If she absolutely has to be picked up at the coach station without a moment's delay, then she needs to work out a better system, for example phoning the taxi firm whilst she is still on the coach and being prepared to pay for some waiting time. Or phoning you to pick her up!
Which I do at this end, which turns out to be Heathrow airport as that is the nearest accessible place that has a direct coach service!
It is more than a wheeze, she paid extra for the meet and greet service and now can't rely on it. AFAIK, it never snows in Sydney, not even out west.
In western Sydney there'll be a frost most winters (tops of the grass tips will be white while the ground will be more wet than solid) but never snow.Am I the only mean-spirited one who has to remind themselves to be pleased for Mr G's sucess rather than envious of it. I'm not on crazy money in New Job: it's a big pay rise but I'm not some mega money Portfolio Manager or Trader. I'm on about double the average Aussie household income so I'm doing pretty well but it's not silly money.
Actually I used to have a flat mate many moons ago who was a complete a........ apart from one redeeming feature where he genuinely liked to see people getting on in life: a popstar cranking out the dodgiest tunes would be great in his eyes if they were doing well for themselves. I've tried to take that attitude into my life too.0 -

I'm with you on this one SC - you had gone to a lot of effort to sort something out and the supplier just didn't care and now it has made your life immeasurably harder.
I know it may be hard to get your mum to try again but is there a more upmarket taxi firm you could use, even if it double the price of they can actually be relied on then it would be worth it?I think....0 -

I'm truly sympathetic, and I agree that this ought to be soluble with a better taxi firm. If I was sounding unsympathetic, it was just because I was commenting on the likelihood of a legal action succeeding.
As I said, if mum can keep some clothes at SC's house that would make it much easier for her to go on the bus.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

That is the problem. They don't seem to exist in her area. Only other option is a car service from her to me, but that costs about £200 each way. (Car meet and greet was £23). Of course she has friends who would have met her, had she asked; but she refuses to ask and won't let me ask on her behalf. I suggested she asked her friends if they knew a reliable taxi service that could M&G, but she wouldn't ask around in case friends thought she was hinting at them meeting her.
If I had known they would have failed, I would have phoned them 10 minutes before she was arriving to prompt them, but you don't get second chances.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Silvercar, forgive me if I am speaking out of turn, but we found that dh's surviving grandparent was well supoorted by the jewish community when left alone. Sadly that lead them to take other liberties with things (think I have mentioned here) but most importantly the grandparent was less alone.0
