Question for Generali (when you are about :)) ; are you going to go for the land you saw?

How stressy is it to buy land and build from scratch as opposed to doing a renovation?

I ask as we have found 'land' as well as we are really really tempted.

Snag is my brain keeps tripping onto a hunny K McCloud moment (a la Grand Designs). Eco town houses in abandoned, neglected seaside towns feel like a grand design idea but may not be the most sensible thing to put our energy into.

I should add that 'The land' for us is actually a small yard with 2 garages on it and derelict buildings each side. I imagine 'land' in Aus is probably more fitting of the description of 'land'.

Happy new year to you all. We're staying in and watching a Colin Firth DVD. :)
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I say go for it - I would like a shot if we could find a piece of land but if there were a bit in St A it would cost more than silly money :(
    I think....

grrrr... just spent the last 1.5+ hours disconnected. Various issues from not being able to get a signal at all, through to lots of disconnections if one appeared.... and non-loading pages.

If, tonight, my light is red and not green, you can be assured that I am sitting on the airbed, in the dark, repeatedly inserting the dongle into different USB ports, moving the laptop around the room .... and rebooting sadly.

Sucks to have no connection to the outside world... I've not spoken to a human being for nearly 5 days now - that's fine, if I had a telly or internet .... not great without.

...same as the area local to us (crud bit of SE London that seems to be morphing into Chelsee by Water judging by the prices and Cross-Rail hype) ....any 'land' here is very expensive.

    It's in Margate.

We(actually, I...OH likes the yard ) have fallen in love with a derelict sea front corner of Victorian loveliness that is part abandoned/derelict and part occupied by a couple of dozen alkies/druggies (quite scary ones I will admit as we had a chat with them)

I am from SE London and am not particularly bothered by alkies/druggies/furreners/ scary NLM's (Not Like Me) BUT what this strip needs is 4 or 5 owners to buy one building each to develop and then love it. Then it can change.
Sadly just one building owned sorted won't cut it :(

There is a stop smoking thread on the debt boards and I have 'hung out (albeit very briefly) but it does help. I am mid a non smoking period at the mo so will probably mosey about on it over the next few weeks.....could do with some company on it :)
I am rubbish on forums - I always seem to be misunderstood .... and people are scarey. I think giving up smoking will require me to stay away from huggy groups :) I think thinking about and reading about smoking is likely to cause it :)

Edit: Well, added as I am still trying to post this. Seemed to be connected, pages weren't loading... but now I am disconnected... again.

It's horrible when you have no connection. Up there with no water and electricity, these days.

Nice to se the fc123 being prolific!
