My way of budgeting is to pay everything up front, in full, on the nose. The idea behind this is that if you lose your job then you don't have a raft of monthly payments going out, there are no payments c0ckups and nobody's ever chasing you for money.

However, the result of this meant that, come 1st April each year, for about 8 years I had to pay out: Council Tax, car insurance, car tax, car MoT.... bit of a heavy month, totalling more than a whole month's pay, so I took it seriously to set aside £150/month every month to make sure that money was in place!

I still pay everything up front, in full, just in case ... I love knowng stuff's paid for.

We have that problem with a Sky TV eye attachment. Its weight is too great for it to remain in situ. We have a stack of random objects supporting its great weight.
And this is why it's so hard to believe the line about man landing on the moon for real :)

Just/finally plucked up the courage to plug in and use my microwave for the first time..... hate electrical stuff, always think I've either missed off something vital (e.g. piece of packaging that should have been removed and will catch fire or similar) .... or it'll just burst into flames anyway. Bought this thing about 4 weeks ago and been looking at it since then to pluck up the courage.

    Cheesy mash for lunch :)

If nothing else, you must, must, MUST do a quote as a new customer with directline. Mine came out £100 cheaper. Save the quote. Then one phonecall to them and they helpfully match themselves, pull the saved quote over to your policy and give you the cheaper price.

:) thanks, didn't realise they could do that. Although, doubt mine will be any cheaper, banger, silly lady driver and all sorts.

My student is going to phone me for a chat at 3:30. I don't really want to work but also can't bear for him to get it wrong.

I'm now convinced the telly issue is solely the inability of the scart lead to stay in.... you can put it in, but it's touch and go if it makes a connection, then it's own weight makes it drop out .... as does moving the telly an inch .... I think the telly is pre-scart lead and the socket was some cheap afterthought round the back that nobody really expected to ever be used.

Only thing is you mention retuning being a problem and it will be the box not the tv retuning, the tv doesn't need to tune to the scart signal.
    I think....

B4lls. That was a new box bought in August, not used until December... cheapo from Asda... so I'm guessing I can't just take it back for a replacement.... and even if I did it might still not work as it might not be the box... but it could be the signal/wallsocket/aerial.

This is too hard..... how on earth do you work out which bit needs fixing?

So, to summarise: it's NYE, it's cold/wet/windy outside and will soon be dark. I have nowhere to go, nothing to do .... my Internet is p1ssing about (it's been super-bad today) and my telly is retuning itself every 10 minutes. I have no special/exciting food in.

I think a lot of people are finding their new years plans are not as hoped because of weather too, and this rampaging norovirus.

I feel ok, but have been 'sicky' all day, and so dh is having sausage and mash before his pavlova while I sip ginger tea tonight. Then we might get an early night at last. He's done the animals today for me too. :o

Tomorrow a sale starts at a local independant nursery/garden centre and we want to nip along to there as their prices are keen anyway, but.......the ground is so wet that seems a bit.....well, a bithopeful. More stuff in pots is not that helpful.

well, we are staying in so you're welcome to pop over and watch the tv with us. we will also feed you and keep you watered. There won't be much sheltered space for fag breaks but it will be warm, you will have a bed and food+drink. And breakfast tomorrow too!
