I once saw The Clitheroe Kid in panto at the Golders Green Hippodrome - that dates me! He used to pay a young boy on the radio. I was so amazed when I saw him at the stage door with all his wrinkles. He must have been 70 at the time.

Edit: Play a young boy, not pay! He's not part of Savilegate AFAIK.

So GDB acts young? Or having a kid at uni makes you sound young?

I bumped into someone (through the dreaded FB, not in RL) who said he had a 2 year old and was flabbergasted that I had a 22 year old.

To add to the above, I just watched a cooking program which had ham.

They boiled it for 2.5 hours with celery, carrots, onion and bay plus a load of peppercorns. Then they made a glaze with honey, brown sugar and Madeira wine that was boiled for 5 minutes. Finally the ham was studded with cloves, glazed and baked for 35mins, basting with the glaze every 5 minutes.

They kept the liquid to make soup. That's definitely the right thing to do.

How on Earth do you cook for 22?!

Christmas as ever is just the three of us; mum, sister and I. I do sometimes wish we had more family, love the idea of having lots of people round, but then I think maybe it would be a lot more stressful...

    Happy birthday GDB!

Perhaps there is an elderly person, living on their own, who would appreciate an invitation? One of the big issues in our society is loneliness. Would that spoil your family atmosphere, though?

It's not so hard. I cooked for about 70-80 people a few weeks back. That was in an ordinary domestic kitchen. I have a single oven and 4 rings on a hob. I have a 'American' fridge but not a particularly large one.

Xmas dinner part 1 has just been put on: I am making rillettes for a starter. 1.5kg of sliced pork belly, a glass of wine, a handful of juniper berries (some thyme is just as good) and seasoning. Cook overnight on low in the slow cooker.
Mash the meat with a couple of forks in the am and pour the juice/fat over the top. Bung it in the fridge.
Serve with a beetroot and Feta salad, 1kg of sliced tomatoes, a couple of sliced onions done with olive oil and balsamic vinegar and a couple of lettuces ripped up and we have a starter for 22.
A couple of loaves of bread on the side and some smoked salmon for anyone that doesn't like rillettes and that's the starter sorted or at least it is once you crack open a bottle of cider or a glass of fruity white wine.
    NomNomNomNomNom. :beer::beer::beer::beer::beer:

    Happy birthday GDB!

We will be spending Christmas with my parents, my brother, his wife and their daughter..in total, 8 plus a baby.

During the day though, we will probably have about 10 other people popping in! Always has been an open house at my parent's for Christmas.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

We were on holiday in Blackpool once and stayed in Bispham, the part of Blackpool where that was all set!

I can recall when Mastercard was called Access and we only got phones through the post office.

Not sure I can remember when BBC1 was just called the BBC, but I can remember when you needed a special button to increase the number of lines on the screen so you could watch BBC2. And it was illegal to show repeats more than once.
Remember the moon landings on TV and watching skylab going overhead. :)
