I had a shock today......I had been showing my mum a picture of a rather expensive but eye catching bottle of vodka on Amazon whilst round theirs. Get home and find an email from Amazon confirming my order...
Hang on, what blooming order?
Yep, you guessed it...somehow my one click ordering had been turned on (I purposely turned it off so as not to order things by mistake) and an order had gone through for the rather expensive bottle of vodka.
£46 including postage!
Much battles with Amazon ensued with them saying they can't help until I threatened them with loss of business and now they are intervening....although with the bank holidays, I can't see my money being back in my account this side of the new year.
Arrrggghhhhhhhhhhh!!
Thankfully, dad is going to sub me the money until it goes back in....phew.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Thanks for the recipe thoughts....however
I quite like boiling it with several changes in water as it reduces the saltiness
Am I the only one who likes to stick with a single cooking method and leans towards anything that results in the minimum/easiest washing up...
I think it will be boiled, cloves and onions will be involved at that point, there will be a parsley sauce, I might get a fresh pineapple if it looks like it might be ripe and I will do some sort of jam based gravy. I quite fancy putting something in the mash to make it more exciting but given the number I am catering for it may be safer to stick with bog-standard mash. May be I will do a sweet potato mash as well.
Re the saltiness, soaking overnight in fresh water can reduce that considerably and may be more effective and easier than repeatedly boiling up the ham. The latter may not be a great idea from a food safety perspective either!0 -

There should be no argument to be had. Under the Distance Selling Regulations you have 7 days to change your mind regardless of why if you buy from Amazon or any other online retailer in the UK.
They can argue the toss if they like but ultimately Trading Standards will force them to refund your money.
It really annoys me that retailers rely on our lack of understanding of the law to stitch us up. The 1 year guarantee thing is rubbish too: something has to last for a reasonable length of time, not for an arbitrary period defined by Curry's. If you spend a grand on a washing machine, it's reasonable to expect it to last for a lot longer than a year and Curry's must repair it for free. They won't want to but they must.0 -
Present wrapping and more jolliness in this household today! Tomorrow we pick up the turkey
Anyone feeling like it's Christmas yet?
We still have to tidy the house and clean bits of it but it's here0 -

Oh be assured that was mentioned too....the poor guy doing their live chat got hopelessly confuzzled (think it was because I went off script) and tried at first to just keep repeating about not being able to do anything about it until I finally got through with my 'threat'....then he started listening.
I am sure I will be able to have a good laugh about it once Christmas is over but it was a bit of a stressful time for a while there feeling like I was talking to a brick wall.
Ah well, we live and learn don't we and it's almost Christmas, so time to relax (yeah right!) and get into the festive mood :rotfl:We made it! Got a busy day here too...
Do the roast dinner (beef today, yum yum), dye my hair, wrap loads and loads of pressies and make a start on my mince pies....oh and visit my parents. We made it! It doesn't feel Christmassy here. I have gotten used to the idea that Christmas Day is hot and sunny and in the middle of summer and can cope with that just fine. What I can't cope with is the weather being hot in the build-up.
Today would have been my Dad's birthday if he was alive still and when I was a kid it was the first day of Christmas: the tree went up which meant that I could have one of the chocolate tree decorations off the tree to eat that day. My Granny and Grandad would also usually start their Christmas stay with us on 23rd Dec which meant a few days of sleeping on the floor of my sister's bedroom or on the floor of the dining room (camping!) depending on my parents' whims that year. It would also be the last day my Dad would work each year, I don't think he ever worked Christmas Eve.
Today it was 36C and I went and picked up the last few things. I bought the meat and the booze, stuff that won't last one way or another(!). 36C!!! How can that be pre-Christmassy? It's just not right.
I think we'll be in the UK for Christmas 2014. The gloomy days and early sunsets should cure me of my hankering for a northern European Christmas.0 -

How pleased were the Australians when the refrigerator was invented?!
Actually I can't think who that inventor is, which is strange considering they probably saved more lives than Alexander Fleming ( who used to receive tickertape parades everywhere he went apparantly);)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Gen, if it makes you feel any better, the weather isn't very Christmassy here either. It is unseasonably warm, about 12 degrees. Also we are having very heavy rain in parts of the country with bad flooding and disruption to a lot of the transport links (well that latter bit might be quite Christmassy).
And to remind you of your Dad, here are some virtual Christmas tree chocs with love from the NPsPlease stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
