    Thanks for the recipe thoughts....however

I quite like boiling it with several changes in water as it reduces the saltiness
Am I the only one who likes to stick with a single cooking method and leans towards anything that results in the minimum/easiest washing up...

I think it will be boiled, cloves and onions will be involved at that point, there will be a parsley sauce, I might get a fresh pineapple if it looks like it might be ripe and I will do some sort of jam based gravy. I quite fancy putting something in the mash to make it more exciting but given the number I am catering for it may be safer to stick with bog-standard mash. May be I will do a sweet potato mash as well.
    I think....

I do my ham in the slow cooker and use the stock for lentil soup. I like the saltiness. I put horseradish in my mash to give it a kick.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I soak mine with lots of water changes to reduce the salt. The rest goes into the bread dough. :) sometimes I put oranges between dough and meat too.

Well,of you are going boiled michaels, And mash, I would go for either delicious buttery leeks, braised celery (oh, ok love braised celery) or similarly buttery cabbage. Any colour. Red is festive, but I love white with just a little cumin. Deconstructed bubble and squeak. Those flavours work well together. :)

Agree with lowering the saltimess! And no pineapple if there's mash; just can't see the textures combining well!

Horseradish with mash sounds delish but I'm the sort of person who thinks peas are too plain without a bit of mustard .

I am dreading shopping for food. I should have done it yesterday or today during school/business hours, but I've got a horrible cold and didn't feel up to it. Not sure when I'm going to fit it in now. :(

I am still not well enough to be able to face shopping either for food or for presents. Now DD has a tummy bug - been sick 3 times (once in the loo and twice on carpets). I am trying to look on the bright side and remind myself that it's an excellent time to get to the streaming stage of the cold because I can't smell the sick when I'm clearing it up. ;)

I have made a decision that we will open what presents have arrived in the post on Christmas day (when it will just be the three of us, probably not all of us healthy), but leave all the rest of the Christmas activities (decorations, special food, the presents that I need to buy myself) until New Year, when we will have my dad with us (and I hope we will all be well). DS has regretfully accepted the decision. DD would usually greet such an idea with howls of protest but is feeling too green to object. I'm just feeling happy that we have not got anyone staying with us for Christmas this year, and that as a teacher I have enough holidays to fit in being ill and having festivities before I have to go back to work, and so of course do my kids.

Hope the rest of you have a wonderful time, anyway.

PS I agree with other posters that most ham is far too salty and that any means of decreasing that is a good thing.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I am glad Louis won (swoon). Think this was my favourite series by far.

I always need a cold shower after strictly but we are probably watching a whole different show :A

I thought it would be Louis or Kimberly who would win by the way it had gone.

    Great show
