    I did find a website - I think it's this one: http://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/digitaltv/freeview.shtml - bottom item:
    [/LIST]

That seemed to be saying that changing the transmitter your aerial is currently pointing to might fix the problem - and lists the aerials in your area. It might be, say, that your two aerials are pointing at different transmitters. Of course, it could be 101 other things.

As a renter, I've no desire to employ aerial firms to fix problems that might exist... this is one of the downsides of renting, you can't improve your lot when things are annoying as you're improving the LL's lot. Like my washing machine woes ... if I'd owned this place I'd have probably got a plumber in to rearrange the pipework.

Generally you want to point it the same way as your neighbours. Here we are only a few miles from a big powerful transmitter in Vivasville but cos of a hill we all point our aerials at Crystal Palace 35 miles away....

It is really good to have you back PN, poshness has been getting far out of hand and I have had to bite my tongue on more than 1 occasion, lets hope you stay for a bit.

Last night was work xmas dinner but I decided I am still not well enough :( Did your work have a do?

This weeks excitement are DD2 being a lost camel and DD1 being Baboushka :)
    I think....

It's hit and miss.... since my last posting I tried to reply to this one, had already dropped off the Internet, restarted the connection manager, removed/inserted the dongle, waited to connect, got some odd error messages, then eventually I did get back here .... and I am typing, hoping it'll actually post.

    Work ...
I work with a bunch of blokes, ... and there were some beers down town, but that was more of a boy-fest beer and food night. So I didn't go. There's another "on your way home this Friday, stop off at the nearest pub" thing, which I'll go to.

    No works' meal/do.

Xmas bonus = "lucky to keep your job".

My excitement this week was .....errrr.....erm......nope sorry, can't think of anything.

On the other hand, it was a quiet week, with no major dramas or meltdowns (youngest almost went for it yesterday but we managed to distract him in time) which is good as it cuts down on my grey hair development.

This coming week however is going to be an absolute nightmare...youngest does not cope well the last week of term and especially the Christmas end of term.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Not replying to any particular post, but in general on heating and systems.

Some months back I read some news report of how people were unable to afford to heat their houses. These were new council houses and the people on the estate had all had to turn it off as they couldn't afford to run it - although they were told it'd be cheap as it was new-tech.

I think the bottom line turned out to be that the people in the houses were using the heating the wrong way. The designers had designed the systems for a different country, for bigger houses, for wealthier people. So I think it was along the lines of "Wealthy people have heating on more, so the system's left running on tick over most of the time - whereas poor people turn on heating when required and the system was always firing up from stone cold". Although I wasn't really paying attention, but that seemed to be the garbled gist of it.

That doesn't help LIR, or anybody else's situation - it was just a standard PN "off with the fairies/irrelevant" and vaguely informational posting... and I've not even got the Internet power to provide a link :)

I remember watching a TV programme on it and the upshot of it was it was completely the wrong kind of system to have installled in the type/size of house and in our climate...alongside the wrong bit being installed to make it work with our kind of heating.

It's a complication of integrating new technologies too. Aiui things like ground and air source are better for thiongs like underfloor running continuously at lower temps, where as super hot water like mine should be is better for rads on short high bursts, just maintaining heat on intervals rather than low and low. (but different people say different things so.....)

Any how, the other ongoing argument is whether heating of traditional or any sort should be on low all the time or on higher intervals for true economy, and tbh, I am not clear, however many MSE rows I read about it.

I recently learned contrary to any thing I have ever done or feel able too, that it's more economy to leave doors open so heat can circulate. The kind of house I have mainly lived in this would be disasterously expensive.

Ultimately I think it probably depends on things like what the house is built of. Houses like mine were meant to have a fire on in at least two rooms most of the time, but not the same second room all of the time, but kitchens probably provided a 'warm core' to the house.

I'm definitely a "never run out of loo roll" type of hoarder. Given my own home, where I expect to stay for some time, I'd be quite happy to stock up with, say, 100 rolls if the space is available. As a rule, I like to get 24 when they're on offer and start to look for the next best offer when down to the last 4-6. As I live alone, I have to predict not only the date I might run out, but other external factors that might affect my ability to buy more. e.g. no deals, keep forgetting when in the shop, car breaks down, or even illness could potentially prevent me getting more in time (even though I am never ill as such).

I stocked up with 24 a month before I moved in here.... so doing nicely. I've got a HUGE built in cupboard in the bathroom - which is therefore only good for towels and loo rolls, but it'd hold 100 easily :)

Edit: I then realised I need to explain that "HUGE" means 3' wide and 1' deep, with two shelves in it. I keep forgetting that most people here are uber-posh and they might translate that into meaning something 4' square :)

A person after my own heart, I always like to have spare loo rolls in the house.

My nightmare scenario is running out of loo roll and having to use newspaper ! :rotfl:

That wouldn't work here! I don't buy newspapers or magazines. If I ran out I'd have to go through the food cupboards tearing up cardboard food packaging :)
