Just walked the dog- fog and frost everywhere. Wonder what tomorrow will be like.

Two rooms downstairs plus conservatory. WC/ shower room. Four bedrooms and bathroom upstairs.

Reckon this is the best we can get as education sector workers, (just) inside the London boundary. I believe it's a building regs requirement that a fourth bedroom demands a second WC, but I could be talking mince.

Always want to have more loo rolls. Can't have too many although as our house lacks storage space (surprise, surprise) we have to spread them around.

Speaking of rooms and bathrooms, someone was asking about house prices in Nottingham compared with London and I had the misfortune to check online what you get for your money. :T

Brallaqueen if you're reading this, don't ever be tempted by a job in London. It'd be like leaving Southfork to live in a police box (and I don't mean a tardis).:(

Spirit - no idea what you should do, and no helpful thoughts to add to what the others have advised - am feeling v tired and not very intelligent tonight - but am thinking of you. Take your time to decide, and don't tell them until you're sure.

Most of you have seen floor plans of my house, but if we're all listing rooms, I have 3 rooms plus kitchen, conservatory, utility & loo downstairs, and 4 bedroom plus 2 bathrooms upstairs. I am always aware that this is huge for a single parent working only half a job, and that other people in my income bracket have nothing like the space I have. I would never ever have been able to dream of a house like this if it hadn't been for LNE's life insurance.

Edit: And of course I'm nowhere near London. :)

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I feel I need to add... I've not just invaded someone else a home and am trying to.impose my strange bathroom segregation on them! There is a desire here to have everything switched off at the wall, which I am making an extra special effort to follow. I also haven't been vocal about my.bathroom issues, I realise they are mine so just get on with changing towels and cleaning the floor :)

    Fixed that for you:beer:

Oh dear. Patrick Moore is on the telly trying to be polite to people talking Venusian or describing being chased by UFOs. Mixed in with sketches with Morecambe and Wise.

They just announced he'd met the first man in space and the first man to fly a plane. What a life.:j

50kw would be huge for a system boiler but I'm guessing yours is a combi?

WE have DG throughout, new filled cavities or injected cavities in all walls and of course latest spec roof insulation and underfloor installation in all the new bits. We have 3 big rooms downstairs, 5 bedrooms plus 4 bathrooms, hall landing and a utility so if you count every one of those as a room and split the 18kw that gives 1.2kw for each room = having a one bar heater on in each room which should be enough in a well insulated home.

The boiler is designed to remain on a minimum heat output needed to achieve the indoor temp running a a convecting temperature and with as few as possible on off cycles.

No, it's a system boiler. Unlike you, we have draughts and single glazing throughout. :)
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I have had some chunky projects in the past, but I am not sure I have the energy for this at this time. I would still keep my existing team but add an new implementation team for this project. Locality wise I could travel around the organisations easily.

NP hear about my life all of the time so I value your opinions.

Hi Spirit. This is presumably a great opportunity to make your mark, and it may not arise again. However, I was worried about the phrase "I am not sure I have the energy for this at this time". Should you talk this through with your OH?

While we're detailing our CH/HW systems....

I've got a condensing boiler (downstairs) and HW cylinder (upstairs). It was fitted in 2011, when they removed the CW tank in the loft and replaced the ancient gravity fed system. It runs on mains gas.

Most of my walls are injected cavity ones, but I also have a few that were built single skin but I've added insulation on the inside and then plasterboard & skimmed plaster. Everywhere's double glazed, but only half the loft's been insulated to a decent standard. Improving the rest of it would mean taking up the boards, raising the joists and reboarding. It's on the list of things to do to the house, but it's not very near the top of the priority list ATM. There's only one significant draught, which comes in around the poorly fitting door between the utility room and the garage. Eliminating that is much higher up the list than the loft is.

I hate to be cold and keep my house nice and warm (by my standards) or a bit too hot (by some other people's standards). I will economise on many things, but being warm isn't one of them.
